Professor Eric Chan is a pharmaceutical scientist and pharmacist in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS) (2006-current). His research interests are (1) physiologically-based pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PBPK-PD) modeling of pharmacology and toxicology, (2) xenobiotic-derived reactive metabolite research with specific focus on interaction with biological proteins and (3) metabolism-driven systems biology modeling of pathology, pharmacology, toxicology and mammalian host-bacteria interactions.Professor Chan is currently Deputy Head (Research) and a member of the Faculty Promotion and Tenure Committee (FPTC). He is an expert consultant at the Hyloris Pharmaceuticals and the A*STAR Experimental Drug Development Centre (EDDC) , a member of the Singapore Food Agency Novel Food Safety Expert Working Group, and an affiliate member of the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore. He is a registered pharmacist under the Singapore Pharmacy Council, Ministry of Health.Professor Chan is the Executive Editor of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. He is also an editorial advisory board member of the Biochemical Pharmacology, Drug Metabolism and Disposition (American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, ASPET) and Journal of Chromatography B. Professor Chan was awarded the Dean’s Chair Professorship in the Faculty of Science (2015-2018). He was six times a recipient of the Faculty of Science Teaching Excellence Award and four times the NUS Annual Teaching Excellence Award. He also received the Faculty of Science Young Scientist Award (2010) and Outstanding Scientist Award (2014). He was awarded the NUS Overseas Attachment Programme (OAP) and the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) research training fellowships at the Imperial College London (2008) and University of Washington (2012), respectively.He suffered heart attack at 30, followed by restenosis 17 years later and second heart attack 21 years later. His experience as a patient spurs him to identify breakthrough treatments.
