Enfoque Ciudad is an 501c3 nonprofit organization that some of my fellow coworkers at Enfoque Mexico and I started back in 2009. Since then it has grown into a thriving orphanage operation headquartered near Guadalajara, Mexico.

During this period, I took a deliberate step back from my professional career to focus on personal development and family commitments. This time was invaluable for nurturing family relationships and supporting the growth and well-being of my children. This period not only allowed me to develop deeper bonds with my wife and children, but also provided me with an opportunity to refresh my perspective and hone skills such as patience, time management, and empathy.

In my consulting role, I balanced multiple responsibilities in a part-time capacity. I focused on product management, collaborating on a spectrum of different needs that arose from the tactical aspects like drafting PRDs to strategic decisions like market positioning. My role also involved helping to shape the marketing and communication strategy, helping direct day-to-day interactions with external development teams, and collaborating on technical details for both backend and frontend engineering efforts. This experience highlighted my ability to adapt and contribute effectively across various domains in a dynamic project environment.

iFixit is the world biggest source of photographic repair manuals. We want to teach the world how to repair its broken stuff! However, we also want to make it easier for companies to engage their community and focus it to produce high quality content!

InDyne, a large contractor on Vandenberg Air Force Base, provides several mission critical services across the base. I was part of a small development team tasked with feature development and maintenance of these systems. Areas of experience utilized included: Oracle Database 11g and SQL Server (2000, 2005, 2008 and CE) architecture, VBScript, VB.Net, C#.Net, Email Encryption & SSO integrations, and Mobile handset development on Windows CE 5 and 6.

The downturn in the economy has affected the online marketplace in our sector (Used / Refurbished Apple Product Parts) less than expected. However, there still is a need for innovation. This was a new role for me and one i took on with great eagerness; in addition, to my full-time volunteering position with Enfoque Mexico. As Online Advertisement Manager I researched alternative methods of social media advertisement, as well as managing the 5000+ keywords between our Google Adwords and Yahoo Adwords Pay Per Click accounts. This job demanded attention to detail, statistical analysis of ad performance and an enthusiasm for the seemingly mundane. After reading "Freakonomics" by rogue economist Stephen Levitt, i became inspired to find the story behind customer behavior and better techniques in what is, essentially, direct marketing campaigns. I enjoy this industry, the challenge it brings and the satisfaction of bridging that gap between the customers' wants and the businesses' offerings.

The was an incredible experience! Anyone with the ability to work in public accounting should consider themselves quite fortunate. The work of an intern working at an international public accounting firm like KPMG is challenging, self-driven, and entirely rewarding. Financial Statement Attestations, SOX compliance, SAS 70's, pre-SOX advisement, and other specific IT offerings offered by KPMG provided a substantial amount of exposure to the inner workings of successful companies. How does a company make money? How does the culture affect the completion of its business objectives? Such key insights into the various organization make a veteran of public accounting a wealth of practical knowledge. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at KPMG; growing as a professional and as an individual, learning how to better support a team and take the lead when needed, especially learning how to take correction with eagerness and to be professional in my conduct. Truly a great experience!

Specific engagements included: SOX 404 (of both public and privately held companies), FSA (supporting the audit team), smaller engagements in IT Security assessments (primarily compiling documentation).
