As the Volunteer Outreach and Engagement (VOE) Manager, I lead the volunteer recruitment team with recruitment campaigns, event planning, corporate and community partnerships, volunteer prospects, and building connections for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana (BBBSCI). With a goal of attaining 1600 volunteer inquiries every year, the VOE team hosts four campaigns throughout the year that include events, partner engagement meetings, marketing, and promotions. In order to make these campaigns successful, BBBSCI has partnered with organizations such as the Indianapolis Indians, Eli Lilly's Global Day of Service, and agency corporate partners.The core function of VOE is to invite people to engage with BBBSCI to promote volunteerism. Increasing awareness and engagement requires communication skills, flexibility, and attention to detail.

Working with the Enrollment and Matching team, I guided applicants through the enrollment process that included a short phone orientation, background checks, references, scheduling their interviews, and assisted with applicant wrap up. During my time as the Volunteer Enrollment Specialist, I helped my team integrate technologies that decrease the enrollment time from over 100 days to around 90 days (from inquiry to match). Implementing technologies such as Acuity (for scheduling) and expanding the use of Captivated (for text messaging), helping our team communicate with applicants in a more efficient way. During my time as the Volunteer Enrollment Specialist, the Big Brothers Big Sisters network moved to a Salesforce platform (MatchForce) for program management, helping us modernize our enrollment process.

As an Intake Specialist, I managed the beginning and the end of complaints submitted to our office. Drafting complaints and determining jurisdiction was the goal of my engagements with complainants. This accounted for around 30% of daily duties. Case management accounted for around 50% of daily duties, with around 20% of daily operation for reception duties. As the Guest Services intern, I served guests from diverse backgrounds, ages, and communities.Two of the main focuses of the Guest Services team are events and hosting groups. Events require coordinating 50 volunteer staff for set up, operating event, and tear down. Hosting includes meals, “Club” (large group meeting), and miscellaneous guest needs. A typical day included staff meetings, event coordinating, sound set up, and constant communication with the ropes course, waterfront, and camp EMT.

Under the Community and Family Resources Department, the Latino Programs and Outreach division connects the Hispanic community of Bloomington, IN to local resources through events, weekly radio broadcasts, monthly newsletters, and bi-monthly e-newsletters.My tasks included translating government documents from Spanish to English and vise versa, publishing division e-newsletters, help run the Facebook page of the Bloomington Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs, and help with events hosted by the division.Latino Programs focuses on education, health, and immigration needs of the local community.

Camp Kesem is an organization that focuses on kids whose parents have or have had cancer. We host a free week-long summer camp for kids 6-16. years of age. Because our organization is completely student run, we fundraise $75,000 to make camp possible. As a Special Events Coordinator, my main goal was to successfully plan our organization's largest fundraiser. This required constant communication with caterers, venue managers, event volunteers, and our small planning team. At two events, one in Evansville, IN and one in Indianapolis, IN, we raised a total of $16,500. As a Volunteer Coordinator, I was in charge of recruiting Indiana University students to join our organization. Weekly, I answered member questions and made sure volunteers were aware of organization events and updates. Monthly, I organized a Mass Meeting for all of our members.

As a page for the public library, I work with a team ranging from 4-9 people to make sure library material is shelved so that patrons can easily find the books, DVDs, CDs, and everything else the library has to offer. Our books are organized according to the Dewey Decimal Classification and our library has an average circulation of around 8,000 materials per week.

I was an intern for the Jeff Sparks for State Representative campaign. Sparks campaigned to represent Indiana District 62 in the Indiana House of Representatives. The district includes Linton, Bloomfield, and south Bloomington.I called voters, led field canvassing, and managed phone banks. I was assigned to coordinate our campaign's internet pages including our Facebook page and website. I was responsible for updating voters on past and future events with weekly blog posts issued on our website.

As a Student Assistant at a dormitory library on the Indiana University campus. I checked-out, checked-in, and shelved library materials. We used the Library of Congress Classification system to organize our books.

Books and Beyond is nonprofit organization at Indiana University that connects people from 3 completely different spheres of life: Indiana University students, grade school student in Newark, New Jersey, and Rwanda. Together we collaborate to bring together an organization of learning for all parties involved. While involved with Books and Beyond, I mentored and assisted a student from Newark, NJ to develop a short story which then we all gathered a collection of stories in a book to publish and donate to grade school students in Rwanda. This work required constant communication between the student and I for the school year.
