As a graduate of McMaster University, I took a design position with NCR Waterloo where I developed Intel microprocessor based circuit boards for use in the NCR line of cheque processing equipment. After several years at NCR, I took a position at COM DEV (a space equipment company) where I continued to develop microprocessor based digital systems for space science satellite programs (notably MOPITT and FUSE). It was at COM DEV that I was first exposed to FPGA and ASIC development (developed an ASIC for the COM DEV BeamLink product). I left a seven year position at COM DEV for Wescam where I developed interface circuits for the transport of IR video data from the camera to the central host. For the past several years, I have engrained myself in the semiconductor business, firstly in a Senior ASIC Design role developing DRAM (DDR1 and DDR2) controllers in support of the Gennum VXP line of Image Processor SoC's. Having gained a thorough understanding of the ASIC flow and the semiconductor development cycle, I was promoted to Manager of the ASIC development team.In 2008, Sigma Designs Technology Canada purchased the VXP business from Gennum and I continued my role as Manager of the ASIC team. In support of the ongoing VXP business and the Secure Media Processor SoC business at Sigma, I was responsible for all aspects of ASIC development including the development process, project resourcing, staffing and hiring, employee satisfaction and (as required) support to the QA and FAE teams for customer, yield and test issues.I am thrilled to now be joining the Synopsys team working closely with their customers on mixed-signal semiconductor IP integration to ensure they succeed.
