About Eric Dickinger

I recently founded an innovation studio we call Kandō. What do we do? Well, we build new products - for ourselves and for clients - from idea to scale. This is no dev shop but instead an experimentation engine - a studio whose purpose is to improve how we innovate. This obsession with systems of innovation has been percolating for quite awhile. I launched a newsletter last year focused heavily on both the modes and applications of innovation to begin unpacking my thinking here. But the itch went far deeper than mere scholarship - I needed to start implementing some of these ideas; to actively participate in the innovation of our innovation systems; and thus Kandō was born. The world is far better today than it was a century ago, but this outcome was not inevitable, nor is continued progress. We need to continually experiment with our methods of innovation if we wish to perpetuate the progress of our species. Too often we build just to build - or to build because everyone else is building - not because we’re actively trying to solve real problems. AI is just the latest instance of mimetic mania. I don’t mean to damper such enthusiasm, but there are so many problems to solve in this world - problems whose solutions might fundamentally transform the life of an individual or an entire society. At my core, I’m a student of behavior. As technologists we spend far too much time obsessing over (often false) solutions and far too little time really understanding the problems; understanding PEOPLE. We have lots of work to do, and I’m hoping to play a larger role in pushing us forward.

Eric Dickinger Work Experience Details
  • Kandō
    Founder And Ceo
    Kandō
    Los Angeles, Ca, Us
  • Kandō
    Founder, Managing Director
    Kandō 2024 - Present
Building the systems that allow us to kill far too many (seemingly) promising ideas so that the real game-changers may thrive. Does that make me an idea gardener?
  • Uncorrelated Interests
    Master Chief
    Uncorrelated Interests 2023 - Present
An on-again, off-again newsletter (currently on hiatus) exploring the Innovation Economy.
  • Omaze
    Svp, Business Operations & Strategy
    Omaze Jan 2022 - Feb 2023
    Culver City, California, Us
Having successfully built out the Houses vertical before transitioning the operations to a permanent in-house team, I took on a broader role focused on data, analytics, and overall growth of the business. In this period we successfully: - Scaled our analyst headcount. - Merged our Data Engineering and Analytics teams into a single Data team for far superior end-to-end accountability of all data systems. - Transitioned from the legacy Tableau system to Looker and deployed that instance across the company.
  • Omaze
    Interim Vp Product
    Omaze Jan 2022 - Mar 2022
    Culver City, California, Us
Given my long-term collaboration with Product and Design, I took over day-to-day management of the teams while we transitioned between different heads of product.
  • Omaze
    Vp, New Business
    Omaze Sep 2019 - Dec 2021
    Culver City, California, Us
I joined Omaze effectively as an entrepreneur-in-residence (EIR) - to prove whether the Omaze model of raising money for amazing charities by leveraging highly desirable prizes like custom cars could be scaled up to multi-million dollar houses. I led a skunkworks team that: - Built a bespoke product experience, including a new sweepstakes/game structure and economy, all wrapped in a freshly designed website and back-end. - Constructed a house acquisition pipeline to ensure that we always had a great house available in the most desirable markets without impairing our cash on hand. - Ran all performance marketing efforts, including both paid customer acquisition and email retention programs. We successfully demonstrated that the houses model could indeed be achieved, and profitably, before folding houses into the core Omaze product.
  • Mitos

Mitos was a mobile-first cloud gaming application, influenced by OnLive and Gaikai the decade prior. We attempted to bring the best in single-player premium games from consoles and PCs onto the mobile phone leveraging standard video streaming protocols and tied to a monthly subscription. It's still a product we'd love to see.
