In 1995, I found Shogo Mochizuki, who began studying Japanese Anma when he was only four years old from his famous grandmother. After two years of intensive studies, I began teaching Level I Anma, and continued to apprentice with Mochizuki for another two years. I mastered my craft and over the next few years sustained a successful practice creating a core niche of less than 50 regular clients visiting my studio two or more times per month. In 1999, my career was temporarily derailed by a car accident with a drunk driver.Shifting gears I took a position at EarthLink as a sales trainer. Simultaneously I was producing large events around the country with Advanced Marketing Seminars. There I was exposed to the latest methods in training and adult learning theory which I am able to incorporate into my massage workshops today. I also toured with Miss USA for two years training cosmetic application and sales strategy to thousands of people.In 2007, after a lucrative corporate career, I re-emerged onto the massage industry. David Palmer, The Father of Chair Massage, Sam Keller, another young entrepreneur, and I launched Zubio, a revolutionary business model in the chair massage industry. I took an intensive crash course with David to learn his Anma chair massage routine and a few short weeks later, we opened our first retail store front in the heart of the Financial District in San Francisco. We were out to transform how the public related to chair massage and the San Francisco Chronicle agreed calling us “The Starbucks of Massage” on the front page of the business section.These days I spend most of my time with my two-year old son while maintaining a small and intimate massage practice for a select few VIP clients. I teach massage around the country and coach small business owners and entrepreneurs. The School for Japanese Healing Arts has been a dream of mine for years and I’m excited about the opportunity to share and teach.
