One of the primary goals of this system was to receive certification as a valid internal market risk model for international regulatory capital adequacy requirements (Basle Accord); such certification would entail substantial savings in required regulatory capital. External auditor approval was received in December of 1997 (the first international Swiss bank to receive such certification), resulting in over SFR 1 bn savings in regulatory capital (which could now be re-allocated to other business areas).Prior to this, was a key architect and developer of global linear Value-at-Risk (VaR) system, which was deployed into production in New York, Zurich, London, Singapore and Tokyo. This project was initiated by the North America region CEO in order to support a consolidated view of market risk across the organization, and was initially developed and piloted for New York trading desks. Once presented to and approved by the executive board as the mechanism for capturing and analyzing enterprise-wide market risk, the system was subsequently deployed across all 5 major business regions (with global rollup to the Zurich site). -
