The Leadership, Coaching and Mentoring Course is open to any trainer teaching California law enforcement. This course satisfies the requirement for certification in the IDI program at Level 3.The purpose of this course is to further develop the California law enforcement trainers’ knowledge and skills in Leadership, Mentoring and Coaching with a specific focus on using these skills as a trainer. This training is led by a team of highly experienced trainers who will facilitate this training course with active, hands-on participation with the students. Course work includes learning by doing through practical exercise.

Captain Eric Finn has served for nearly a decade as a police commander in both the Operations Division and the Investigations and Services Division and has a broad breadth of experience in all facets of leading a municipal police agency including serving as the Interim Police Chief. He has extensive experience in supervision and management, public policy, human resources, finance and budgeting, internal affairs, recruitment and background investigation and directing major incidents.Division Responsibilities: The Operations Division is currently staffed with 62 Police Officers, 5 Community Service Officers , 1 Animal Services Officer, and Reserve Police Officers. Members of the Division are responsible for a variety of duties, including: Patrol, Traffic, S.W.A.T, Special Enforcement, K-9, Animal Services and Bicycle Patrol. In addition, several members of the division have been trained as Drug Recognition Experts (D.R.E.) and all of the patrol officers have been trained in First Responder First Aid/CPR and in the use of the Automated External Defibrillators, (A.E.D.) which are carried in all of the patrol vehicles.The Investigations and Services Division is divided into four areas of responsibility the Criminal Investigations Unit (C.I.U.), Youth and Community Services Unit (Y.C.S.U.), the Professional Standards Unit (P.S.U.), and Support Services covering Dispatch and Records. Members of the Division are responsible for a large cross section of activities and support functions within the overall effort to provide public safety to our community. Investigations and Support Service personnel are assigned to criminal investigations, Property/Evidence, Crime Analysis, D.A.R.E., School Resource Officers, Crime Prevention, Personnel & Training, Professional Standards, General services, Fleet maintenance, Dispatch and Records management.

The Business Law Enforcement Alliance (BLEA) was formed in 1994 as a partnership between business and law enforcement to develop solutions to crime problems. Since that time, the BLEA has expanded its scope to consider educational and/or training opportunities that would directly benefit those individuals and business that are involved in law enforcement activities.For businesses, the BLEA is intended to provide ongoing access to the collective expertise of law enforcement representatives and leaders from throughout the state, and thus the potential for statewide solutions to statewide crime-related problems. Again, this access could result in the recognition of, and solutions to, ongoing or developing law enforcement problems.

The FBI National Academy is a professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement leaders that serves to improve the administration of justice in police departments and agencies at home and abroad and to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide.Its mission is “to support, promote, and enhance the personal and professional development of law enforcement leaders by preparing them for complex, dynamic, and contemporary challenges through innovative techniques, facilitating excellence in education and research, and forging partnerships throughout the world.”Who attendsLeaders and managers of state and local police, sheriffs’ departments, military police organizations, and federal law enforcement agencies. Participation is by invitation only, through a nomination process. Participants are drawn from every state in the union, from U.S. territories, and from over 160 international partner nations. The course of studyClasses of some 250 officers take undergraduate and/or graduate college courses at our Quantico, Virginia, campus in the following areas: law, behavioral science, forensic science, understanding terrorism/terrorist mindsets, leadership development, communication, and health/fitness. Officers participate in a wide range of leadership and specialized training, and they share ideas, techniques, and experiences with each other, creating lifelong partnerships that span state and national lines.
