I have over 25 years of experience in creating software systems in diverse domains, including telecommunications, financial, homeland security, education, location services, and healthcare. As an experienced software architect, I have led teams and companies to success. As a lifelong learner, I have pursued my passion for computer science by constantly learning about and applying new technologies. I enjoy working with languages and I’ve been working almost exclusively with Java and Scala throughout my career.After spending over fifteen years working primarily with the Java programming language, I am proud to have led teams developing in Scala over the past several years, and I have even worked with Scala as my language of choice for personal projects I have implemented.My career in software engineering started out at Motorola in the late 1990s developing 5-Nines highly available, high quality software in the telecommunications industry. My formative experience as a software engineer involved the fast-paced, real-time financial trading environment of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), a major US options exchange. The challenges I faced there had me thinking about complex, highly available systems doing real-time data streaming well before these became commonplace. I have found that these two experiences have prepared me well for an ever changing software industry.
