Led the development of a very low cost fiber optic acoustic receive array for littoral surveillance and swimmer detection that was successfully demonstrated under NSWC's Harbor Sentinel program. Completed the development of a hybrid, fiber optic communications/personnel detection system that was demonstrated for NIOSH in a PA research mine. Successfully solved manufacturing challenges associated with miniature fiber optic gyros used in military IMUs.

Directed the technical team through a series of successful development projects and government contracts. Led the development of a multi-channel fiber optic rotary joint costing one-tenth of competing devices with superior performance and durability. Wrote winning proposals that resulted in $2M in government contract awards in the division’s first 1-1/2 years, including the selection by ONR for the development of an all-optical swimmer detection system for littoral area protection.

Directed all of the Engineering Department activities for the Federal Systems division. Coached and mentored a project team to produce a high-temperature, downhole, multiple-point temperature/pressure measurement system in less than 4 months, from concept to field demonstration. Managed the R&D and field testing of an all-optical prototype military towed hydrophone array. Directed all electronics, software, firmware, sensor and cable development efforts for handheld and console-based sensing systems. Led the research of a continuous glucose monitor based upon optical sensor technology. Managed the development of fabrication techniques for FBGs to be used in applications requiring operation above 300C.

Responsible for MEMS interconnect and packaging technology. Managed the development of optical device packaging that significantly reduced temperature sensitivity. Developed automated MEMS packaging and interconnect solutions. Designed, built, integrated and tested the hardware and software for a hermetic sealing station. Managed hardware, software and sensor development efforts for the LWWAA SONAR system for Navy submarines, as well as ManTech efforts for towed and deployed acoustic arrays. Oversaw the development of automated sensor manufacturing. Designed an electrical-to-optical converter for ultra-safe medical device data transmission.systems.
