Profile bio

About Eric Richardson

After 47 years working in fire, health, safety, and wellbeing, I am retiring on 30 September 2022.I have worked alongside teams and guided them to effect risk controls, winning hearts and minds and changing attitudes.I've helped housing, education, care, engineering , chemical and manufacturing sectors develop H&S management systems. I have built a reputation for providing strategic Health and Safety direction within diverse, multi-site organisations, and solving complex business issues. I've particularly enjoyed inspiring teams and improving processes so organisations can focus on their vision and mission objectives.I've developed positive health and safety cultures using media and humour to engage the workforce; evidenced by 94% of 2000 employees voting the organisation a 'Safe Place to Work', and more recently, gaining 5 Stars through the British Safety Council's 5 Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit. I have been fortunate enough to deliver the safety message on TV, Radio, conferences, and in training videos. I have discussed the safety agenda with ministers, civil servants, governors, trustees, executives, employees, peers, legal representatives and law enforcers. My speciality? changing attitudes and behaviours to improve engagement and risk reduction. In a recent leadership role, I was told by one senior manager “When you came, if you'd talked to me about health and safety I would have told you where to go, now I'm fully committed to it, and that's all down to you.” Me? I am egalitarian, idealistic, and open-minded. I analyse different perspectives and draw my conclusions methodically. I value fairness and respect for others. I love people and communities.

Listed skills include Operational Risk Management, Management, Strategic Planning, Leadership, and 17 others.
