Manage and direct the day-to-day operations of county parks, law enforcement, recreational facilities, trails, greenways, wildlife and recreational areas. Collaborate with management team in strategic and comprehensive conservation planning, increasing operational efficiency for park services. Areas of responsibility include outdoor recreation, natural resource management, land and water management, wildlife and fishery programs, and supervising professional and technical employees. The county’s public areas cover more than 17,000 acres including 60 miles of paved multi-use recreational trails and 45 miles of soft trails.

Instruct various recreation classes (i.e. Leisure Delivery Systems), exposing students to the types of companies, organizations and agencies that provide recreation to the public, including local, state, federal, non-profit, commercial and therapeutic. Foster student understanding of recreational providers’ operations, including leadership, management, planning, decision-making, networking, organization, staffing, and budgeting within the leisure service profession. Advise and counsel students on choosing course curriculum and internship opportunities to match their career search strategies.

Managed desert mountain preserves and open space areas within the City of Phoenix. Direct responsibility for strategic planning, operation, maintenance and public safety of park facilities, including environmental education centers, trailheads, historical structures and cultural sites. Assisted with managing department budget, overseeing capital improvement projects, identifying organizational priorities and workforce needs. Planned and managed sustainable park and open space projects, including green building and energy efficient public facilities, trail building and restoration, landscaping and rehabilitation projects. Partnered with outside agencies for park and natural resource management, land use and protection. Ensured regulatory compliance, including but not limited to storm water management, dust control, hazardous waste and air. Served as a liaison to local community, special interest and non-profit groups, reaching a consensus and developing policy recommendations. Coordinated programs and large events, regulated special use and access permits with private & non-profit groups.
