Member of a small team of Emergency Critical Care Nurses in the Pediatric Emergency Department-Specializing in triaging and identifying patients needing escalation of care to the critical care setting between NICU, PICU, and CVICU.-Bridging care and transporting critically ill patients from the ED to the ICUs.-Providing regular inservices and education to staff members regarding Pediatric Critical Care in both the Emergent setting, and in the Intensive Care setting.

PICU-Directly overseeing the nursing staff at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in the role as the Resource Nurse of a 30 bed Pediatric ICU.-Managing ECMO, CRRT, EVDs, multiple inotropes, and ventilators while monitoring hemodynamics and providing care to patients. -Providing Critical Care for pediatric patients being treated for trauma, sepsis, ARDS, MODS, and post cardiac arrest.-Recovering patients immediately post organ transplantation including heart, lung, liver, kidney, and small bowel. -Obtaining difficult intravenous access through ultrasound guided methods, and intraosseous line placement during emergencies.CVICU-Recovering postoperative patients undergoing surgical repair for congenital heart defects. Single ventricle palliation, pulmonary artery reconstruction, transposition of the great arteries, TET PA MAPCAS unifocalization, heart failure and patients receiving VADs. Assisting during intubations, managing multiple chest tubes and temporary pacemakers.-Stabilizing and providing ongoing care for critically ill patients awaiting heart transplantation or growth for surgical readiness. Providing care for patients ranging from day 0 of life all the way through older adulthood.ECMO Nurse Specialist-Assist Perfusionists and Surgeons in preparing for cannulation to both vaso-arterial and vaso-venous ECMO in patients from neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations.-Managing VA/VV ECMO circuit flows and oxygenation status for patients receiving ECLS. Trained to operate traditional Centrifugal and Rollerhead ECMO pumps, as well as the Cardiohelp centrifugal ECMO pump.-Performing blood sampling directly from ECMO circuits to ensure circuit stability and calibration. Making wet-to-wet connections to add CRRT dialysis connections and plasmapheresis connections to ECMO circuits.-Troubleshooting ECMO pumps and oxygenators during circuit emergencies including mechanical failure, circuit clotting, and air entrainment.

-Responsible for managing the care of adults on the cardiac floor on day 2 after CABG surgery. Developed strong time management skills with 4 patient assignments.-Caring for patients post angiogram after myocardial infarction and stenting, ablations, pacemaker insertions, interrogations, and patients with congestive heart failure. Managing chest tubes and activating stroke codes.

Providing preoperative care for patients preparing for open heart surgery the following day. Caring for patients post angiogram and intervening as necessary post procedure to promote healing. Being knowledgable about routine cardiac medications and empowering patients to manage life with heart disease.
