I designed and lead an ethnographic study of the ambulatory care environment to understand, evaluate, and improve patient adherence of discharge instructions. I evaluated multiple data points including provider-patient communication, the complexity of provider instructions, and patient health literacy to generate a system level understanding of the problem in order to generate actionable solutions.

My colleague and I evaluated the user experience for the CampDoc electronic health records (EHR) system. We employed multiple methods in order to provide actionable recommendations that reduced the memory load placed on users while also improving ones' ability to recover from errors. We interviewed multiple subject matter experts (doctors, nurses, parents) and real users to define top tasks and issues with the system. We presented our findings and recommendations to CampDoc leadership.

I lead a three-person team to evaluate and provide actionable design recommendations for two business process tools. We applied human factors and user experience methodologies to understand the users, primary task goals, and performance within the tools. We performed comparative analyses, heuristic evaluations, a card sort, a key stroke level model, and multiple task-based user scenarios to inform the evaluation and eventual design recommendations. We provided the stakeholders with a technical report outlining the findings and design recommendations.

Worked within a six-person team to lead a one month long camping/backpacking trip across the continental United States. I supervised the trip where I developed logistics including budget, food, transportation, and accommodations.
