Worked as a data science consultant to startup company eBrandValue to help them automate the process of applying topic labels to product-specific, foreign-language social media data. Used Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) to analyze topics within a product-specific data set and to apply topic labels to individual user posts. Additionally, I provided tools to eBrandValue to extract the users posting most frequently under each topic category.

Worked on projects in super-resolution microscopy of single molecules and nanoparticles. Improved existing image processing code for super-resolution microscopy by rewriting code to take advantage of parallelization and vectorization in order to decrease image processing time by 10x. Built and maintained optical microscopes, and wrote code used to interface motion-control equipment and optical-detectors using LabView.

Developed new super-resolution image processing techniques to model emission from plasmonic nanomaterials. This included adapting and testing models previously used for fluorescent molecules (dipole emission model) on nanoparticle-mediated emission. This resulted in better fits to our optical microscopy data, which gave a more accurate determination of model parameters. This work led to 5 publications (2 first author).Additional projects-Used combined atomic force/optical microscopy to investigate enhanced electric fields around gold and silver nanoparticles. This involved the development of instrumentation, instrument interfacing and data analysis tools for this project.-Developed Monte Carlo Simulations to model fluorophore photophysics near gold nanorods. Led to 2 additional publications, and is still in use.

Performed student training, maintenance and minor repair work on instruments used in the quantitative analysis teaching labs. This equipment was used for experiments in GC/MS, GC-FID, HPLC, FT-IR, UV-Vis absorption, capillary electrophoresis, fluorimetry, and flame AA/AE spectroscopy. Also taught general chemistry recitation courses to groups of 100+ students.

Examined structural differences between gas-phase tropone and tropolone molecules using a combined approach of gas-phase electron diffraction and molecular modeling software. This involved writing code in Fortran to define molecule geometery, and manually iterating non-linear least squares fitting of experimental electron-diffraction image data. Also worked with and performed maintenance on homebuilt high-vacuumm gas-phase electron scattering instrument.
