Manage the Development team, reporting to the head of Trust & Safety Operations. Uber’s Trust & Safety team is responsible for ensuring that a user’s experience with Uber is as safe as possible—both from a trip experience and user to user interaction. Responsibilities included preventing safety incidents, enhancing user sentiments, and increasing engagement via operational solutions and innovative product features. The T&S Development team is responsible for the ideation, communication, and execution of initiatives designed to prevent safety incidents and enhance trust in creative/innovative ways. We partner with PMs to ensure that safety features are incorporated early in the development life cycle; collaborate with our Legal and Public Policy stakeholders to determine if any policy or processes are needed; included valuable insights from our dedicated Safety Research and Data Science teams to validate our efforts; and work with our regional leaders and operations teams to execute proposed product, operations, or process solutions. As the manager of the Development team, I lead a team of five dedicated Innovation & Experimentation Specialists.

The primary author of content policies on Twitter and Vine, with an emphasis on abuse, hate speech, defamation, violent threats, privacy, child sexual exploitation, and terrorist activity. Conducted competitive analysis, determined potential legal risk, surveyed operational and business cost, managed a team of specialists to respond to safety incidents accurately and informed both internal and external partners to ensure successful launches. Founding member of the Product Safety Abuse Task Force entrusted to improve user safety on Twitter. Accomplishments include new enforcement measures to catch serial abusers and a redesign of the abuse reporting flow to enhance user satisfaction without sacrificing scalability.Collaborated with data scientists and academics from the Berkman Center for Internet and Society to pioneer methods for hate speech and counter-speech case analysis. Published case studies in Muslim Advocates’ annual report Click Here to End Hate and presented findings at the Sudikoff Interdisciplinary Seminar on Genocide Prevention.
