  • Western Michigan University
    Instructor - Doctoral Research Assistant
    Western Michigan University 2005 - 2009
    Kalamazoo, Mi, Us
I had the pleasure serving as a research assistant and teaching assistant. I was in charge of teaching a Behavioral Statistics course – that's right, a math course for Psychology majors! (for those not "in the know" Psychology is often the degree-of-refuge for the most math-averse among us) and as if that wasn't tough enough, it was a required course. Challenges aside, I look back on it as one of my most treasured experiences. Teaching helped me clean up my instructional practices, refine my presentation skills, enhance problem-solving, and taught me how to lead in a classroom setting. I also had the pleasure of serving as an informal mentor to several students who went on to graduate school. I am so proud of you guys! The research assistant role taught me about scientifically sound research, the importance of good methodology and the grant writing process! Thanks Dr. Van Houten!
  • University Of The Pacific
    Consultant
    University Of The Pacific 2000 - 2004
    Stockton, California, Us
I had the pleasure of serving as lead project consultant for the university-wide roll-out of the Apple iTunes U initiative. Primary responsibilities: Strategy development, artwork, documentation, marketing, talent coordination, project system design, systems integration, training, and presentation. While at Pacific, I designed and installed two open-access computer labs in the School of Education and the Psychology department. Labs were built on OS X and were the first open-access Mac-based labs at Pacific. These labs allowed for individual user accounts and lab manager control of terminals. Presenters were even able to present on a projector upfront and display the presentation content on each computer screen to limit distractions. It was a sweet lab!I also introduced wireless internet to the Psychology department which was the first building on campus to have wireless internet. Can you even remember a time before wireless internet? At the time it seemed like magic! Did this occasion any distractions? Perhaps.
