Writer/Composer/Director/Performer
CurrentIn a career that spans 30 years I have written well over 200 songs, 7 full-length shows, 4 children's shows, one cantata and two and have curated/arranged/scripted/composed over 20 musical reviews. Many of the songs in my standing catalog were written on commission for choral groups across the country; two of the shows I wrote were written on commission for theater groups. A partial list of choral commissioners includes The Esoterics; The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington DC; The New York City Gay Men’s Chorus; One Voice Charlotte; The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus; Sound Circle; The Turtle Creek Chorale; Seattle Men's Chorus; Seattle Women's Chorus; The Miami Gay Men's Chorus and The Windy City Gay Chorus. Several of my pieces are published through Shawnee Press, including “Lambscapes,” “It’s Our Christmas Cheer” and “Glee.” 'Fairy Tales' began in Chicago in 1995 where it received several awards in its three runs at two theaters. In New York the show won three Bistro Awards at the Duplex Theatre before going on to an Off-Broadway run at the WPA Theatre, and then crossed the pond to a successful run at The Drill Hall in the West End of London. 'The Stops' began in Chicago in 1998, and has had numerous productions across the country, including at the National Gay and Lesbian Theater Festival in Columbus Ohio in 2006 where it won Best Musical and Best Ensemble. 'The Holiday Stops' was written as a follow-up show for the Richmond, Virginia Triangle Players where it broke all proceeding box office records. I recently completed a remount of an autobiographical show 'Is It Just Me?' at Seattle's Theatre Off Jackson. I am currently working on a children's book, sketching out a new musical (involving greed, murder and jazz hands) as well as a production that takes a surprising new look on an ancient spiritual tale.

Writer, Band Member (Piano/Keyboards, Vocals, Multitudinous Sound Effects)
CurrentThe 14/48 TheatreFestivals are billed as 'The world's quickest theatre festival.' The concept is to write, cast, rehearse and present 14 new plays in the space of 48 hours. At the first night of each festival the participating directors, writers and actors are given assignments for theme and casting; the writers go home to write their 10-minute plays and rehearsal starts the next morning, not letting up until the plays have been presented in full form that same evening. At the end of the first night the whole process begins again with a new batch of plays. In this insanely engaging festival I have been a writer five times, and band member eight times; as a band member I have written original songs to match the evening's theme.

Associate Artistic Director
From 2000 to 2017 I worked on creating musical/theatrical magic for Seattle Men's Chorus and Seattle Women's Chorus. I formed the men's vocal ensemble Captain Smartypants, who is currently in their 17th year. In 2014 I took over direction of the women's vocal ensemble Sensible Shoes. With Flying House Productions I conducted numerous pieces on each SMC and SWC concert, led rehearsals, arranged and composed songs and entire concerts. Each year since 2001 I created a new, full two-act show for Captain Smartypants. From 2014 to 2017 we presented shows at Seattle's best live music venue, The Triple Door. '
Ensemble Member/Composer/Adaptor/Writer
Created numerous shows with the ensemble, each based on literary work. Original adaptations and accompanying songs include William Steig’s ‘The Amazing Bone’ and Virginia Lee Burton’s ‘Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel,’ both of which went on to enjoy several other productions with numerous theaters across the country. 'Simple Jim and His Four Fabulous Friends,' an interactive kids' show with three busy actors playing dozens of roles, was a critical and audience hit.
Music Director/Teacher
Formulated touring musical programs for a 50-member youth show choir; led weekly rehearsals and traveled locally with the troupe, accompanying them on piano and often acting as emcee. Also served as a music teacher, director and camp counselor for Apple Tree Theatre’s summer youth music programs for three years during this time; each summer program culminated in an original show presented by the participants who ranged in age from 7 to 17 years.
Music Director
Auditioned, rehearsed and accompanied singers performing opera, operetta and Broadway repertoire nightly during dining hours. Penned the 'Happy Birthday Hallelujah' which became a highly requested favorite every night.
