I research gene therapies in the Peranteau Lab, which investigates genetic diseases in young children such as Hurler's syndrome and tyrosinemia and focuses on improving delivery of gene therapies through vectors like adeno-associated viruses and lipid nanoparticles. I'm currently investigating the efficacy of gene-editing tools called adenine base editors in correcting a mutation that results in spinal muscular atrophy in neonatal mouse models. In the lab, I learned techniques such as DNA extraction and purification, PCR, sequencing and genotyping, needle-making, and mouse surgery.

I meet with student organizations and cultural groups as well as administrators to improve student life at the University of Pennsylvania. I recently wrote and passed a proposal to dedicate $4,000 from the Undergraduate Assembly's excess budget to finance transportation for student volunteering groups without other funding options during the 2023-2024 academic year. I will continue to work on initiatives on campus related to dining, housing, and transportation.

I collaborate with medical school students and other undergraduates in the Ting Research Group at the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. I am currently working on a systematic review to evaluate the efficacy of remote monitoring of treatment follow-up in vascular pathologies such as carotid stenosis, diabetic foot ulcers, peripheral artery disease, and abdominal aortic aneurysm.

I launched a project to maximize doctor capacity, standardize rules for clinical practices and patient referrals, and streamline hospital process flows to decrease patient visit durations in the Retina Clinic of the world’s largest eye care center. I am continuing my work in a retrospective study on causative factors of long patient visit durations in the clinic, and I look forward to applying all that I learned in healthcare operations and management.

I learned about key consulting and project management concepts while working on a deliverable for Penn Park Farm. In this deliverable, I assessed Penn Park Farm's valuation by analyzing the prices and quantities of crops grown throughout the year. Based on this valuation, I made a recommendation of which crops to grow and how to expand the farm's revenue streams. In addition, I reached out to local farms and community-based food organizations to identify partnerships for Penn Park Farm.

I represented Mountain Lakes residents in the Environmental Commission to determine local environmental policy and served as a liaison from my high school. On behalf of my town, I spoke at monthly meetings to push back against commercial development that would have damaged local wetlands and resident living experiences. In my high school, I collaborated with the Commission to construct a botanical garden featuring all native plants and created fundraisers to support ocean cleanup and Earth Day initiatives.
