Served over 40 volunteer hours leading volunteer groups at the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area to remove invasive species, plant trees & restore natural habitat by planting trees and native plant species.

I spent my summer internship with MN DNR learning a lot about the agency, its mission and how I can help to further that mission to conserve Minnesota’s forest resources. I learned concrete skills that are applicable to a wide range of positions within forestry and natural resource management. I gathered field data in the forest for reinventory and regeneration surveys to help gauge the ecological and economic health of a forest stand. I assisted foresters with timber sale design, preparation and management of harvesting operations by doing the leg work of painting boarders, inspecting roads and ensuring loggers are following sustainable harvesting best practices. I also performed as Smokey the Bear at the local fair and helped to raise awareness of forest fire safety and prevention. I helped to maintain the site headquarters grounds and equipment by using the zero-turn mower and performed various projects such as making a ticket board for the foresters to hang the returned logging receipts. As a forestry intern, my main job was to learn how foresters perform their duties stewarding Minnesota’s forest resources.

I instruct CPR/AED and First aid certification courses to the general public in the Twin Cities Metro Area.
