I was on the global leadership team of WPP/GroupM, running mobile for the world's largest communications services group following their acquisition of Medialets.

Medialets pioneered brand advertising in mobile, bringing the first rich media ads to smartphone devices. We built the first mobile ad SDK and got it embedded into almost every major publisher on the planet (NYT, WSJ, BBC, Conde, Hearst, Google, Aol, Yahoo, Gruner, Viacom, News Corp, NBC, Disney, ...), ran a mobile analytics service used by more than 25K developers, then built a buy-side ad server and signed every major ad agency holding group as a client. We partnered with and raised ~$35m from top-tier venture capital funds, drove more than $1bn in ad spend through the platform, recruited and led a stellar team, and ultimately sold the business to WPP, the world's largest marketing communications services firm.

I led the team at WashingtonVC, an early stage fund and incubator focused on building companies through the exchange of complimentary technologies and marketing services. WashingtonVC’s portfolio of companies share resources, talent and technology to deliver innovative products and services in consumer Internet, telecom, media and the domain name space.

I was a partner in a disruptive, media/entertainment startup that can best be summarized as a hybrid between a music label and an ad agency. We worked with a mix of independent and A-level talent together with global consumer brands to create a new, ad-driven model for distributing content online.I spent my days evaluating business models and applications for monetizing entertainment content online, splitting my time between corporate strategy, sales/business development, product definition, content acquisition and partner/technology selection. When I wasn't immersed in the minutiae of social media platforms or the structures of artists' contracts and traditional content licensing deals, I could often be found talking with the CMOs/senior marketing execs at some of the biggest consumer brands (Coke, AT&T, Verizon, ...) about engaging consumers in their marketing and innovation processes through entertainment content and community.Another company brought this to market.

I spent some time outside of the tornado, doing venture development, strategy consulting and some philanthropic work on my own, often in a very comfortable robe with one of my Jungle Cats on my desk. Highly recommended. Except for the Jungle Cats part.

I built Viaduct from a one-man shop to a world-class Internet professional services agency with global presence, marquee clients and a stellar team in under three years. The company was revenue financed and profitable from the first year of operations, and continued to show strong growth through its merger with the Wolf Group, which at the time was one of the largest independent ad agencies in North America.I drove sales and marketing, managed partnerships, and lead the company into business/marketing/technology strategy and product development engagements with Fortune 500 companies and startups in technology, telecom, CPG, media/entertainment, distribution and finance. In the early days of running Viaduct, I created Wireless Outpost, the first online publication and community dedicated to tracking the emerging digital mobile networks in the US. I hired a strong editorial team, built partnerships for additional content and grew the subscriber base into a thriving community of over 200K consumers and mobile professionals.The site featured a database of the rate plans and phones offered by all of the US mobile operators, had a fictitous, managed index fund that tracked the industry, guest contributions from a host of business and tech leaders, and vibrant, active discussion on mailing lists covering consumer-related topics in the emerging mobile market.What started as a blog covering the launch of Sprint Spectrum - the first GSM carrier in the US - ended up becoming a fantastic marketing and business development tool for Viaduct, as it evolved into one of the top research/intelligence tools for executives in the mobile industry.

I was one of the team of four who started the company, and led the company from its beginnings as a government contractor to a focus on the Internet market.

NeXT was Steve Jobs' company following his first tenure at Apple. We made and sold some of the most forward-thinking technology the world has ever seen - so far forward, in fact, that we did more making than selling. Ultimately, Steve went back to Apple, organized a purchase of NeXT, and transformed NeXT's software platform, NeXTSTEP, into what is today Mac OS X.I was responsible for pre- and post-sales on campus support for higher-ed customers in the Baltimore, Washington, DC area.
