I wore two hats at the FP:First, I worked in the Planning & Development Department, under the Chief Civil Engineer, as a Project Manager responsible for the planning, design, and construction of projects identified in the Capital Improvement Plan. Typically, these projects are related to roadways, parking lots, paved and unpaved trails, underground utilities, bridges, dams and water control structures, and other site infrastructure.Second, I worked across all FP departments on various water resources-related issues and projects. Most of this work is related to stormwater management, but it also includes watershed hydrology; restoration of streams, rivers, lakes, and wetlands; soil erosion and sediment control; and green infrastructure and Low Impact Development practices.

For nearly six years, I was the senior staff-level civil/water resources engineer at CDF. My main roles were as project manager and project engineer on municipal, commercial, institutional, and residential site development projects. As a project manager, I was responsible for all schedules, deliverables, budgets, and fees. As a project engineer, I was responsible for preliminary and final designs, stormwater modeling, permitting, cost estimating, preparing bid and construction documents, and construction administration.Another body of work consisted of watershed planning and the planning, design, and construction administration of streambank/lakeshore stabilizations and natural areas restorations.At CDF, the principle on which all designs are based is that water is received and treated as a resource, and not squandered as a waste product.
