I taught Introduction to Performance: an acting-oriented introductory Theatre Arts class.

The TEN FOR TENN Festival features ten 10-minute plays by emerging Tennessee Playwrights. The TEN FOR TENN's mission is to find and promote new theatrical voices in the state of Tennessee. The TEN FOR TENN Festival is two weeks of performances of ten new 10-minute plays by Tennessee playwrights. Each year has seen a minimum of 75 entries. In the past, the Festival involved the campus of Tennessee Wesleyan College and the community of Athens, Tennessee through the Athens Area Council for the Arts. The TEN FOR TENN now has a new home at TENN ARTS in Chattanooga's Southside Historical District. The next Festival is on the horizon--but TENN ARTS currently is home to Wayne White's Wayne-O-Rama, brought to you by the Shaking Ray Levis Society. Wayne-O-Rama is an immersive art environment celebrating the Chattanooga area and its history and will run until the end of September 2017!

I was head of the program in Theatre and Speech in the Department of Fine Arts, and the primary instructor for all Speech and Theatre classes, founding and advising the TWC Theatre Club and advising the local chapter of the Alpha Psi Omega Theatre Honor Society. In 2012 I created a program of study for a new BA degree in the Fine Arts with an emphasis in theatre. I produced a between two and three full productions a year, and was responsible for all aspects of production. I served on college and community committees, produced theatre in the local community, and engaged in service, production, and scholarly work in a variety of venues such as the WordBRIDGE Playwrights Lab and the Southeastern Theatre Conference.

The WordBRIDGE Playwrights Lab brings together over 60 artists each summer, including six pre-professional playwrights whose plays are intensively developed over the course of two weeks. I am in charge of directing the training of undergraduate student artists selected to participate in the Lab in a variety of roles. I also oversee the conception, development, rehearsal, and performance of the student artists’ own performance piece that they work on throughout the Lab as well.

I taught performing arts classes and workshops to healthcare professionals and medical students as part of the Institute’s Center for Professional Renewal (CPR) program. The program was designed to help students and professionals renew passion for their work through the Arts and spirituality. Material offered included acting, improvisation, autobiographical performance, writing/adaptation and theatre for social action.

I was part of a team hired to start a new department and BA program in Theatre and Dance. I designed and created curricula for the new degree program proposal, recruited students, collaborated on designs for new theatre and educational spaces, served as theatre advisor for State certification program in Speech and Theatre, served as primary departmental representative for the St. Louis Area Theatre in Higher Education Council, served on the college Outreach Committee, served as director for most departmental theatre productions— including collaboration with Music Department, advised the University Players, founded the Natural Bridge Theatre and Dance Workshop, and was primarily responsible for all classes in theatre history, criticism, theory, acting, directing, and performance.

2002—2003: Graduate Instructor: University of Missouri—Columbia Department of Theatre Theatre in Society: I taught a lecture-hall survey course of over 200 students utilizing Web CT. As the department’s first student designated “graduate instructor,” I supervised two fellow graduate teaching assistants. 2000—2003:Graduate Assistant: University of Missouri—Columbia Department of Theatre Acting for the non-Major: I designed the class to break down inhibitions and develop performance skills that students can use in everyday life. 1999—2001:Teaching Assistant: University of Missouri—Columbia Department of TheatrePrinciples of Script Analysis: I assisted in a writing-intensive course designed to help students understand play scripts through dramatic critical approaches.

Fall 2001: Theatre of the Oppressed Facilitator: MO State Association Middle School TeachersI instructed middle school teachers from all over the state of Missouri in Theatre of the Oppressed techniques for use in the classroom. Subject matter included using theatre to solve conflicts and to make any topic more approachable and fun.Instructor of “Dramatic Results” Workshop: Columbia Public Schools:I instructed public school teachers in the use of theatrical and storytelling techniques in the public school teaching environment. Material covered applied to students from grades 6—12.Summer 2001:Youth Instructor of Theatre of the Oppressed: University of Missouri—Columbia Peace Studies Department, Peace Camp I taught middle school students to use Theatre of the Oppressed techniques as a means of stimulating dialogue and solving disagreements. Students used theatre to explore issues of diversity and conflict in a way that was both fun and enlightening.

Youth Drama Coach: “Stephen’s Kids” program for at-risk youth.I used theatre games and my own “Produce a Play in a Day” program to help at-risk children develop and improve interpersonal, performance, and creative skills. Students from St. Stephens worked in leadership roles with the At-Risk youth to produce entirely original plays in a single afternoon. Students learned writing, acting, and even technical skills while creating, rehearsing, and performing their plays.
