I analyzed potential investments for Valmiki Capital Management's portfolio of impact investments. I also served as an operating executive in two of Valmiki's portfolio companies: alphabetA, a groundbreaking educational software company, and BuildForward Capital, a unique financial services business that provides financing for deeply energy efficient building renovation and construction using Passive House techniques.

With 5 other MIT students, I co-founded EnergyAtlas, a company dedicated to creating a two-sided marketplace for "green" homebuyers. Through the use of proprietary software and advanced data analytics, EnergyAtlas could show prospective realtors and homebuyers the relative efficiency and likely operating cost of every home and apartment in the United States.

I generated investment ideas in technology, retail, clean energy, homebuilding, and industrial sectors for a relative value hedge fund with about $500M in AUM. I researched 62 companies and pitched 5 positions to the portfolio managers. All 5 recommendations were accepted, generating more than $1M for the firm.

For four years, I served as one of the 25 people responsible for developing and executing climate change and clean energy policy at the State Department. I was responsible for evaluating possible government investments, analyzing them, and pitching the best candidates to senior officials. I was a lead author or editor of 4 major climate-related documents, which organized and presented information on the United States' $7.5 billion in climate-related assistance from 2010-2012. I managed a U.S.-China public-private partnership called EcoPartnerships, which drew praise from the President and Secretary of State and grew by 200% in the 2 years I managed the program. During that time, EcoPartnerships leveraged more than $40 for every $1 of government investment. I served on advisory panels to the White House's Climate Change Education Working Group, the Climate Change Communication Working Group, and the Special Report on Renewable Energy (SRREN), a subsidiary body of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). I also prepared policy memos, speeches, and other communications for senior State Department officials who needed to know about clean energy and climate change.

I was employee #2 of this start-up environmental consulting firm. Behind the effort and fame of our founder, Dan Esty, the company advised several Fortune 500 companies and government entities. With founders, I helped build the business from a single client and $100k in annual revenue to 14 clients, 11 employees, and $1.6 million in annual revenue, 1 year later. I authored or co-authored the majority of new frameworks, presentations, and proposals during company’s first year. The firm was successfully sold to Pricewaterhouse Coopers in June 2012.
