As Founder and CEO of Clear National Title Agency, Eric McLendon runs an organization that provides title services for the largest and most complex commercial real estate transactions. Since its inception, Clear National has provided title services for transactions valued at nearly $20 billion including the new Terminal One at JFK International Airport in New York and the new NHL arena and hotel complex for the New York Islanders at Belmont Park on Long Island. Mr. McLendon follows in the tradition of his grandfather, Dr. Frederick Earl McLendon, a physician who built the first black hospital in Atlanta, GA, and developed an adjacent residential community in the 1940s and 50s. That entrepreneurial spirit inspired him to establish one of the only Black-owned and managed national title insurance firms in the country. Clear is one of few title insurance agencies in the field to have the support of all five of the top major underwriters: First American, Fidelity, Stewart, Chicago, and Commonwealth, and is currently licensed in 20 states. Originally from Chicago, Eric earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism/Political Science at Texas Christian University. He entered the insurance profession following success in a distinguished career in network television news, sports, and entertainment broadcasting, winning an Emmy and a Peabody Award. He was a sportscaster for WNBC-TV in New York, a producer for ABC News/Good Morning America, and hosted his own show on The Food Network, "Recipe for Success." He was an accomplished actor, with guest appearances on "Law and Order," "Criminal Intent," and other roles before changing professions to establish a major, successful presence in the insurance industry. Mr. McLendon was named as one of Crain's New York Business 2022 Notable Black Leaders and in 2023 New York City & State named him to its distinguished Construction Power 100 list.
