Software Developer
Member of the Data Processing V2 development team. Our product is a cloud-based device ecosystem that hosts Schneider IoT devices and their data traffic in a secure, sophisticated network of gateways and message delivery. It is suitable for line of business teams who wish to take advantage solely of the message routing and offers capabilities for building custom message processors. We use Microsoft Azure to represent various workloads and GitHub actions to get things done.Azure: - Deployment of various resource types using ARM, both in JSON and Bicep. - Weekly cost management reporting to assist budgeting. - Key vault management with PowerShell Azure modules for short-term data recovery as well as assisting Quality Assurance in setting up new test environments. - Usage of Azure CLI for a variety of tasks. GitHub Action and related tasks: - Creation of GitHub actions to deploy Azure resources as well as leveraging custom in-house actions for managing all aspects of our Kafka environment from account setup, topic creation, key management, etc. - Demonstrated using Node and Newman to automate Postman collections in GitHub actions.Confluent/Node - Developed a suite of Node-based programs to leverage a new API from our Kafka provider, Confluent. This is a necessary step as their own CLIs are no longer suited to running inside GitHub actions.Intangible - Created Java-based C# to Go translator using ANTLR4. This was applied to a 9,000+ line code base to quickly create a usable, testable Go program. - Developed a Go-based tool to automate the discovery of all configuration variables for our repositories.General - Participate in daily stand-ups. - Perform code reviews on colleagues' pull requests. - Developed two (Go and Java) prototypes using Kafka and Redis to demonstrate the concept of deferred messages, particularly in the case of "lost communications" for physical devices.More to come...

Integration Engineer
Consultant hired by Schneider Electric to transition Lotus Notes data into other technologies.Engaged as "Integration Engineer" as part of the OneOffer Data project. The major goal of this project was to transition the Secure Power Division, the legacy brand "American Power Conversion" (APC), away from Lotus Notes database for product, supply chain and digital assets. In its initial form, the legacy systems heavily leveraged Lotus Enterprise Integrator (LEI) to move the data from Notes to SQL for surfacing on a ColdFusion web front end. Later, the ColdFusion front end was replaced by ATG. This project created several ETL processes to transfer data via a SOAP middleware directly into the SQL back end ATG in an effort to minimize disruption of the ATG portion of the publication chain. My tasks covered three key sub-projects of the main project:Supply chain:* Custom LEI-based jobs to process CSV files uploaded to an external FTP server for importing into legacy Notes supply chain databases to function during migration to new system.* Parse files, enhance business logic to control data flow between databases.* Research data flow issues during process failures.Digital assets (documents and images):* Create customized Notes views and LEI jobs to isolate and export essential data.* Create custom Java programs to export spreadsheet-based packages for uploading into the target system.* Direct India-based team on our approach.* Prepare reports to demonstrate migration progress.* Create user guide for asset creators to assist transitioning to new system.* Hold training sessions to assist transitioning users as well as demonstrate features of new system.* Guide external consulting firm in transforming data to be re-integrated into SQL system.Product relationships:* Extract product compatibility and relationships data to load into new system.* Guide consultants in creating ETL for re-integration into SQL system.
Software Engineer
• Assumed control of the Microlink Simulator tool. Microlink is a proprietary protocol used to communicate with uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs). This tool is a Java application with a Windows Dynamically Linked Library (DLL) Java Native Interface (JNI) layer.• Upgraded the project codebase from Java 5 to Java 8 to take advantage of new features.• Changed project build tool from Ant to Eclipse/Maven.• Created a delivery system to package and include a required 32-bit Java virtual machine (JVM).• Began coding tasks that have been idle for almost two years.• Created new application based on the Simulator codebase to empower corporate Repair Centers to increase the capture of UPS device data upon device return from customers. This code rework was done against Java version 8 and embraced many ideas of the “Clean Code” philosophy regarding clarity, reliability and maintainability:• Majority of class and instance fields were public – Improved encapsulation by changing visibility to “private” in most cases and created “getter” method where appropriate.• All collections were coded using a pre-Java 1.5 mentality - Improved code reliability by enforcing use of generics.• Active member of the SmartConnect team. This product offer represents the first UPS in the world featuring cloud-based control, allowing customers to observe the health of their UPS through a web interface. The offer uses a Lightweight M2M (LWM2M) server and Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing environment to provide a seamless end-to-end system. • Support firmware development teams with tools, expertise and process recommendations. The firmware and software worlds are quite different and my goal was to provide information regarding current software maintenance practices and remove process barriers so that the firmware engineers could focus on firmware development.

This entailed the creation of a cohesive Spring-based ecosystem of 150 Java classes• Participate in Schneider Electric’s corporate “Agile Transformation” by embracing and extolling Agile and SCRUM practices at different levels in the development hierarchy.• Create and maintain design elements for use as content components in an SDL Tridion content management system. Work with external design firms to retrieve their markup and other web assets and load them into various design components so they can be effectively leverage by content creators.• Maintain Maven XML configuration files to build and port Java and .NET artifacts to integrate with Jenkins CI.• Reduce technical indebtedness reported by SonarQube in order to improve code quality KPI measurements.• Acting as “business analyst” in the Schneider’s “OneOffer Data” program, a multi-year effort aimed at harmonizing all of Schneider’s disparate product data and digital assets into a centralized repository and user solution.• Mentor and interact with consulting firm employees in India to guide them on issues in “legacy” Lotus Notes applications.• Provide information regarding system and database infrastructure for APC systems (see below).• Identify “orphaned” Lotus Notes applications as part of a global Lotus Notes decommissioning project (“EscapeNotes”).
Programmer/Analyst
Member of the "Web Development Team" in the Global Marketing Division of a leading power management company, supporting the internet business of the American Power Conversion brand. Key Projects• Lotus Notes database maintenance• Optimized nightly processing agents to reduce Lotus Notes “churn” activity.• Added newer embedded user interface controls to improve user experience.• Ensured data integrity by performing routine checks of data flow to SQL (see below).• Supported product line business managers in their tasks by explaining database functions and capabilities and making design suggestions when appropriate.• Created and executed targeted agents to correct data entry and legacy issues.• Improved integration of various import/export operations to text files and spreadsheets.• Improved data reliability by implementing various “defensive programming” strategies.• Created and modified LEI connections, activities and scripts to transfer Notes data to SQL.• Improved source code quality and management by modularizing and refactoring code.• Participated in monthly upgrade cycles in a quasi-Agile environment, applying application changes per end user requests.• Created and modified SQL tables and stored procedures.• Assisted other teams by providing Notes support services and modifying SQL objects for their projects.• Mentored junior developers to improve code quality and business skills.• Created ColdFusion web service to provide JSON data for consumption by iPad/Android “White Paper” app.• Developed a series of components using ColdFusion’s native XML functions for uploading data to Schneider Electric’s Business Services Layer (BSL) middleware via SOAP web services.• Ensure that uploaded content on website matches internal tracking tools.
