As Software Architect, I’m responsible of the architectural design of the applications developed for our customers. Smals is a large company (1500 people) specialized in the software development and applications housing, mainly in the Social Security field. Based on the analysis, my role is to design the application at an architectural level, to coach the developers during the development, to ensure the product quality through testing processes, to package and deploy the final product into the customer’s environment. We’re developing with .NET C#, our applications are Web Services oriented (SOA) with Rich Windows based clients or ASP.NET web front-ends.

The goal during this professional experience was to provide a new Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) to a legacy application. The result was the complete development of a Web Service platform, and the development of clients such a Web layer, a PDA application, ...The Web Service was sold as a SDK to integrators to assist them to develop custom applications in the field of people and task scheduling.I was also responsible of the whole process of software engineering, from the development till the deployment, including the testing and packaging processes.

I worked as expert on mission at the European Commission, DG Entreprises, as a Senior Analyst.The projects that I was responsible, or that I enforced the team, were Web-based Coldfusion projects, interfacing Oracle databases, using XML and Web services for the communication with the external actors. I developed also Java Web Service client application.I was also the Business Object specialist of the team. My mission consisted of implementing Business Objects solutions within the DG, by increasing its level of use, increasing the quality of the universes and increasing the system accessibility and visibility.As consultant I was used to work within the respect of customer defined constrains like project deadlines and budget, or to deal with the environment and the chosen technology.

I was responsible for the Citybird Information Technology Department, the Belgian airline company. The budget of department IT was approximately 30 Mio of BEF, and the team counted to 9 people. I set up the organization of department IT in order to provide to the operational departments (Call-center, dispatch, crewing...), that work H24, an irreproachable service. So much from the point of view of infrastructure (uptime of the servers, adequate material...), than software (development of tailor-made tools, integration of the operational systems like Crew and Flights scheduling, close contacts with the suppliers and their support teams...), while proposing a support adapted to the users. I think of having achieved my goal and to having very appreciably increased the quality of the services provided by department IT all while maintaining of lowest the budget. This beautiful adventure ended in the bankruptcy of Citybird in October 2001 little time before the bankruptcy of Sabena.

Between may 1993 and august 1998, I worked in the 'Cellule Recherche' of the Université Libre de Bruxelles as computer scientist. During these five years, my technical skills in relational databases and in the management of NT networks increased. I also got my expertise in the development of Internet/Intranet solutions.
