Structural Engineer and Technical Lead of Boeing SLS Support Contract

Responsible for coordinating and leading the activities of the Vehicle Loads, Dynamics, and Strength team (10 engineers). Budget and administer resources for tasks supporting the Space Shuttle External Tank, Ares I Upper Stage, Ares I First Stage, and new Space Launch System Programs. Schedule, plan, and track task work, implement and track Jacobs and NASA safety policies, manage personnel, provide technical guidance to stress analysts, and mentor junior engineers. Work with customer to resolve technical issues, coordinate training, and procure necessary equipment and software.

Task Lead, Crew Launch Vehicle Upper StageDeveloped requirements for structural verification of the Ares I Upper Stage elements. Drafted test plans for 19 Developmental, 8 Qualification, and 3 Acceptance Tests for Upper Stage hardware. Led cross-discipline meetings to communicate requirements to affected organizations, understand testing capabilities and limitations at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, and to adapt test plans, where appropriate, to accommodate the supporting organizations. Worked with the Ares Upper Stage Project Office to adapt test plans as necessary to accommodate budget and schedule constraints.Task Lead, External Tank TPS AnalysisResponsible for coordinating and overseeing the activities of five stress and dynamics engineers supporting the External Tank Return to Flight activities. Developed complex finite element models (PATRAN/NASTRAN and ABAQUS) and performed independent structural analysis of TPS configurations supporting the investigation of flight phenomena, test activities and candidate redesigns. Prepared and delivered technical documentation including technical briefings, analysis reports and monthly activity reports.Stress Analyst, X-37 ProgramPerformed independent structural analysis and provided analytical oversight for NASA’s composite X-37 vehicle. Assisted in the development of the vehicle requirements document. Performed independent analysis of critical components.

Consultant to the US Army on structural integrity of helicopter propulsion systems and drive trains. Verified vendor documentation, performed low-cycle fatigue analysis and assessed risk to fielded aircraft using classical techniques as well as finite element methods (ANSYS).

Lead Stress Analyst - International Space Station Lab Cradle AssemblyUsed finite element (FEMAP/NASTRAN) and classical techniques to analyze static strength, fatigue and fracture life for the metallic structure used to mate the Main Truss to the International Space Station. Stress Analyst Engineer - International Space Station Payload and Equipment RacksAnalyzed the metallic and composite components of Space Station Racks using FEA (FEMAP/NASTRAN) and classical methods. Responsible for building and checking the finite element models used by the Rack Stress Team. Produced technical documentation and presented findings to internal, NASA and international customers. Served as group computer focal, performing informal training, trouble-shooting and system-administration functions.

Stress Analyst Engineer (1 year)Developed fuselage structural repairs and assessed design changes to 757 production aircraft. Worked with airlines to evaluate structural condition of aging fleet and damaged aircraft and prescribed repairs and/or inspection schemes. Assessed static strength, durability and damage tolerance of aircraft in accordance with federal regulations.
