In collaboration with the Sarphati Initiative and the Amsterdam Medical Center, I conducted my master research project and subsequently wrote my master thesis, titled: “Prevalence and determinants of vaginal high-risk human papillomavirus infection among different ethnic groups in Amsterdam, the Netherlands: The HELIUS study” (to date, the scientific manuscript publication is in progress).This observational cross-sectional study was nested within HELIUS (acronym for HEalthy Life In an… Show more In collaboration with the Sarphati Initiative and the Amsterdam Medical Center, I conducted my master research project and subsequently wrote my master thesis, titled: “Prevalence and determinants of vaginal high-risk human papillomavirus infection among different ethnic groups in Amsterdam, the Netherlands: The HELIUS study” (to date, the scientific manuscript publication is in progress).This observational cross-sectional study was nested within HELIUS (acronym for HEalthy Life In an Urban Setting), a large-scale multi-ethnic prospective population-based cohort study - in which, to date, over 10,000 participants are enrolled. This cohort study aims to increase the knowledge on cardiovascular disease, mental health, and infectious diseases across the six largest ethnic groups in Amsterdam.Besides my own research project, I carried out several research activities in favor of other infectious disease related projects at the GGD regarding logistics, inclusion, reviewing and protocols. Furthermore, I wrote a review report on behalf of an international scientific journal (BMC Infectious Disease) and headed several seminars - attended by senior researchers and PhD students - concerning critical discussion of international scientific articles dealing with HPV and HIV epidemiology. Finally, on behalf of our research team I presented the findings of my thesis, i.e. our research on HPV, at the epidemiology conference WEON which took place on 4-6 June 2014 in Leiden, the Netherlands.
