About Eric Rexer, Ph.D., Pel

scirexer@gmail.comTeam comes first:I will be a valuable member of your staff. I bring extra experience with me to the workplace. I have worked in teams both academically and in industry. As a teacher I add value to teams by bringing my industrial, military, and research perspective to previously more homogeneous teams. In the Flow:I have worked professionally as a scientist and can relate to others how science is accomplished and practiced in the work place. Adaptable:Recently I have worked as a teacher in many different environments; I have been a long term substitute in several local school districts. I have worked in urban and more remote school districts which had vastly different student demographics, different demands, different challenges, different approaches to administration, and different student age groups. On several occasions I have stepped in with one or two days’ notice to take over a full load of students (up to 150) and three preps.Flexible:I am ready to start any work that is science related and in any mode desired. I have worked in exclusively paper based classrooms, in nearly 100% electronic paperless classrooms, and in augmented classrooms with aspects of both. I have have acquired skills using Learning Management Systems and Student Information Systems which are transferable to applications in other fields. I have worked at the bench doing analysis and characterization and at the desk writing, verifying data, and managing projects.Growing:Through online groups and classes, learning management system forums, personal contacts, books, and other publications, I continually research. I am currently focusing on new approaches to teaching, new ways to understand my students, and better more efficient means of managing my classrooms.I am ready to step into the role of a scientist and of a science teacher. I am always eager for new challenges and opportunities to grow further in my service to others.

After propagating my back yard with prairie plants which are easily grown, I started sharing the resulting seeds with AP Environmental Science teachers and any other teacher who wanted them.If you would like seeds and flower heads to let your students break open flower heads and spread prairie plant seeds at your school please contact me at scirexer@gmail.com. I have an excess of Gray-headed Coneflower flower heads and Indian Grass seeds. It is easy to build a lesson plan around these seeds, if you have a place to spread them near your school and it gives a good easy lesson and outdoor activity at the end of the year or in the fall. It is perfect for after the APES test at the end of the year.
