About Eric Sage
I am the principal MEMS design engineer and lead of the MEMS design team at Kyocera TechnologiesI have built a team of designers whose activities span a broad range: MEMS resonator simulation & modelling, material modelling, photomask layout, data analysis, DFMEA, product development and project management. My initial background is electronics & physics with a specialization in micro and nanotechnology for integrated systems. My career has led me to work on a diverse range of MEMS/NEMS based products: varifocal liquid lenses, piezoresitive and piezoelectric resonators, and microphones. My academic experience has allowed me to develop custom high-end testbenches unlocking unique features that led to high impact publications (Nature Nanotech & Communications). In the context of industry, I have hands-on experience developing resonator products (current endeavor) and MEMS microphones (Cirrus Logic). At Cirrus Logic, my main achievements were:- invention of technique to characterize susceptibility to electronic capture & transfer to mass production- development of various characterization testbenches: parallel test of microphones drift post reflow, susceptibility to stiction, wafer level characterization of vacuum resonance & metal stress- PCM design & layout ownership leading to reliable wafer quality monitoring and smooth tapeouts- piloted a collaboration with University of Athens to uncover root cause of reliability issues - on time validation of MEMS transducer specifications (lead validation engineer)I have lean6sigma training (green belt) and experience dealing with a Tier1 Taiwanese Fab to improve and control process stability. My hands-on experience in the field of MEMS/NEMS includes:- Electrical measurements (Lock-in Amplifier, SMU, DMM, LCR-meter) - Optical measurements (Laser Doppler Vibrometry, white light interferometry) - Resonant system characterization (Q-factor, SBR, SNR, Allan Deviation)- Instrument control (Labview, Python)- Post-processing (Matlab, Python, JMP)- MEMS design (COMSOL)- Layout (AutoCAD, Cadence, Klayout)- Ultra low vacuum and low temperature chamber design (Solidworks)- Material characterization (SEM, FTIR, UV spectroscopy and shear test)My skills cover a wide range of the technical aspects of commercializing a MEMS product: simulation & design, validation, product test, fab processing and Failure Analysis. I am both interested in working on a MEMS product intended for mass production (consumer electronics) or develop a cutting edge MEMS for new applications (high-end products).
Listed skills include Polymer Characterization, Origin Pro, Vacuum Chambers, Instrument Control, and 15 others.
