  • Career Break
    Gap Year
    Career Break 2008 - 2010
I took a break from working for a couple of years, explored some new ideas and adopted a cat and a couple of dogs. Accidentally got kicked off of Facebook for my Defriend Detector app.
  • Social Platform Llc
    Founder And Ceo
Social Platform Llc Aug 2005 - Feb 2008
    Brussels, Brussels Region, Be
In the pre-Facebook era, I observed the insufficient services corporate brands received from MySpace. I created the first white-label social network stack, Social Platform, where brands created and customized social network experiences for their audiences. Writing the trashy MVP of the software, I guided a development team to build v2 product which was brought to market. Social Platform’s success was featured and cited in articles across the media landscape, and was credited as the visionary industry leader in a Gartner Group Report. The phrase "Social Platform" has since become an industry-standard term. Social Platform LLC was acquired by ONEsite, a corporate online social network software provider, in 2008.
  • Geektek (Fka Becomputing)
    Chief Executive Officer
    Geektek (Fka Becomputing) 1998 - 2008
GeekTek (FKA BeComputing) was an IT consulting business servicing the Los Angeles SMB market. At the end of 1998, I was a few months away from being broke, so I picked up the phone book and called local companies asking if they needed any tech help. Shockingly, the approach worked. With the revenue from my first big client, Jason Natural Cosmetics, I developed an IT consulting business. At the time, I was an early BeOS tester, and built BeOS, Linux and FreeBSD compatible PCs in my apartment at night. Wired magazine highlighted my company, then known as BeComputing, for being the "Dell of alternative operating systems." Unfortunately, Wired created market confusion by mislabeling BeComputing as a subsidiary of Be Inc. It wasn't long before BeComputing rebranded as GeekTek at the behest of Be Inc. This caused further market confusion when Geek Squad launched services in Los Angeles. This led to a half-hearted acquisition attempt by Geek Squad which was abandoned just before their own acquisition by Best Buy, In 2000, GeekTek exited the hardware business to focus on IT services and my other ventures as outlined below.
  • Geektek Hosting
    Chief Executive Officer
    Geektek Hosting 2001 - 2007
Started as a side hustle for GeekTek clients, I built out GeekTek Hosting to provide server co-location, virtual web hosting and web programming services to clients nationally. WD Solutions acquired GeekTek Hosting in 2007.
  • Streetteams/Omotion
    Chief Executive Officer
    Streetteams/Omotion 2004 - 2006
While running TalentPages, I acquired StreetTeams.net, an early SaaS for bands to manage their fan base and promotional activities. Clients included Madonna, Los Lonely Boys, Particle, Gavin DeGraw, Strings Attached and many others. The service anticipated the social media sites that now facilitate the direct connection between music celebrities and their audiences. Fan Manager acquired the company in 2006, when I turned my attention to developing Social Platform.
  • Talent Pages
    Chief Executive Officer
    Talent Pages 2002 - 2005
    Los Angeles, Ca, Us
After a friend cast me in Eminem's Without Me music video, I saw how challenging it was for casting directors to manage the lifecycle of prospective talent. In response, I created TalentPages, which provided online profile pages for aspiring actors and direct connections to casting directors. TalentPages facilitated casting for commercials for national brands, hosts for reality TV and music videos for award winning artists. Talent Holdings acquired the company in 2005.
  • Idealab
    Ecommerce Developer
    Idealab Jul 1998 - Oct 1998
    Pasadena, Ca, Us
Developed a shitty ecommerce engine for WeddingChannel.com and quickly realized I didn't want to be a coder, much less for someone else's company. I moved on to explore my own entrepreneurial pursuits, continuing the IT consulting practice I had built in college. Many of the lessons of Idealab's incubation model carried over into my future ventures.
