I am an aspiring doctor working towards a degree in Biomedical Sciences to serve as the foundation for when I start medical school. I graduated from high school with honors and an AA degree from Valencia College. I am currently looking for positions to participate in research, especially in neuroscience.I developed my joy and enthusiasm for the medical field while volunteering every Friday at Florida Hospital. Every week I am excited to enter the Neuro-Critical Care Unit because I feel like I am helping people recover from brain injuries and surgery (albeit not very much because the M.D.'s and the RN's do most of the actual healthcare). The biggest lesson that I have learned while volunteering there which has shaped my aspirations and visions for my future is the value of life. Every time that I am there, I see the teams of healthcare professionals spend days, weeks, and even months on patients in the eventual hope that they recover as fully as possible. It is my dream to be one of those people. I may not have the formal education yet, but I have the drive and determination to pursue it.I want to pursue research because it opens doors to new treatments and medications that can save many patient's lives. I have seen patients die and the effect that it has on the families and it is heartbreaking. By participating in research, I believe that I can help some patients and as a result their families as well.
