NYC Resistor is a hackerspace in Brooklyn with the mantra "We learn, share, and make things" Hackerspaces are collaborative community workshops where members work on projects together and share knowledge. As co-founder and treasurer of NYC Resistor, I'm constantly learning from fellow members, and excited to see the number of people inspired to create interesting projects by visiting to our space, attending our classes, or just reading about what we're doing.

Worked with other organizers to bring 300+ attendees together to share knowledge in open format. Worked with sponsors and venues to allow attendees to participate for free. Took lead organizer role for BarCampNYC3 & 5 and coordinated efforts of volunteers, sponsors, and attendees.

Created new products from start to finish on a 6-8 week timeline.Worked in all areas of development, from ideation to UX/wireframing to backend modeling and frontend implementation, and helped market and sell the products both to consumers and other businesses. Built apps using the right tools for each job and evaluated and used new tech when appropriate, including Rails and Node.js, "NoSQL" databses like MongoDB, Redis, and Neo4J, and build fast, cross platform mobile apps using Titanium, Phonegap and Sencha Touch.

At Drop.io, I was given the opportunity to both shape the Rich Media Backbone API (and the systems behind it), while also working with developers and major companies to build products based on it. This dual role gave us the ability to react extremely quickly to the needs of partners and create a product that was truly essential for anyone handling rich media uploads from their users. Personally, working at Drop.io was a fantastic opportunity for me to dive into both a larger development workflow using RoR, scaling webapps for millions of users, designing an API for developers, and managing the developer community.

Clipmarks was a small company building new ways to share what you're reading on the web. As a small team, we iterated quickly, and did whatever was needed to get the job done, which makes choosing a title difficult. At Clipmarks, I functioned as Community Evangelist, Video Producer, Product Strategist, de facto Designer, and Developer. Most recently, I developed Amplify.com, a social network for sharing what you're reading built in PHP on top of Wordpress MU. Working with Facebook Connect, Twitter, and other APIs, we made it easy to sign up and sync your clips to external services. We also added social networking functionality and ways for users to expose new content, and new users, to each other.I also functioned as the sysadmin for Amplify.com, installing and maintaining wordpress MU in a horizontally scaled deployment of 256 mysql databases across multiple servers.

Discovered and exposed hundreds of artists through a weekly 30-60 minute podcast hosted with my wife, Sara. Produced & edited episodes, preparing them for listening on the web and via portable media devices.Promoted the show by engaging communities, cross promoting with other shows, and organizing and attending events such as BarCamp and PodCamp.

Worked with the PodCampNYC team to bring two free unconference events around Podcasting and New Media to NYC. Promoted the event and coordinated hundreds of attendee signups

Developed and maintained websites and Intranet using open source solutions such as wordpress and mediawiki running on an internal, cost effective LAMP server. Wrote custom applications for managing internal IT requests and staff lists across multiple locationsManaged Windows/Exchange server environment and provided support as needed to 150 usersDeveloped database applications in VB, access, and PHP / MySQL

Built and maintained web and database applications and intranets for clients in Java, PHP, and integrating Citrix services for remote access.Provided onsite and remote troubleshooting and IT services for clients.

Developed leadership and team organization skills. Handled crisis situations and provided advice and counseling the residents of my floors. Awarded the Wagner College Leadership Award for Outstanding Resident Assistant.
