I am committed to educating Black and Brown children; and remains an advocate for social justice. For the past ten years, I have been an active participant in the education system within the city of Philadelphia. I have worked with inner city youth in various facets; social services, college preparatory programs; as well as working in an elementary school (K-8). I am blessed to have worked with the entire K-12 population in one area or the other. For the last ten years, I have worked for Mastery Charter Schools several capacities; Dean of Students, Assistant Principal of Culture; and I have spent the an additional five years as the building principal. Over the last year and a half I have had the privilege of serving as Chief Executive Officer in the charter school sector here in Philadelphia. I am unapologetic about keeping students at the center of all decisions that are made for students. Not just academic decisions, but decisions that will also impact the social and emotional aspects of our black and brown students. Through research we know that students only learn when they believe their teachers have a deep rooted belief that they will learn and thrive. It is impossible to embrace our black and brown students without being able to identify and be able to respond to the traumas that many of our students face. Therefore, I am an advocate for children, and I believe that ALL students deserve to be educated and taken care off without compromise. It is essential that we are aware and knowledgeable of trauma informed practices—because it is the framework to building healthy, long lasting relationships.
