Pioneer Camp is a place where children can go to be children. We play outside ALWAYS. We get dirty. We try to make lots of mistakes from which we can learn. We do our best to take care of ourselves, each other, and our camp environment.I strive to create an environment where children can develop self-reliance and the mental toughness to try difficult things, while also appreciating their place in a supportive society of peers.As an instructor, I believe that children, left to their own devices, will do lots of great things. I teach & model examples of how/what is possible with determination and collaboration, and when necessary, I facilitate solutions to intractable problems.Pioneer Camp is a series of day camps for 7-13 year-old campers and 14-18 year-old "Junior Leader" volunteer counselors-in-training.Activities include: Leave-No-Trace firebuilding, digging holes, teambuilding games, climbing trees, making hay forts, campfire cooking, leatherwork, printmaking, blacksmithing, wood carving, archery, making up games, jokes and riddles, and general outdoor fun!

I put them in difficult but controlled situations (mostly outdoors), and then I help them figure out how to create success for their team, their teammates, and themselves.I lead staff to deliver exceptional, memorable programs for Pathfinder clients.I teach staff how to climb trees and how to facilitate tree climbing and other transformative experiences for clients. Sometimes I also talk to people about how Pathfinder can help their school, company, team, church, family, etc., to become more of what they want it to be!
