After a 30 year career in finance, I began Legio Unius ("Army of One" in Latin) where I take on select clients and help them with value creation, finance optimization, and factory efficiency.

After the acquisition of Big Ass Fans, and post integrating it into the new owner, I was privileged to be offered a full-year, paid sabbatical with the option to return to the company in a new role upon its completion. After an amazing year of traveling, reading, and spending time with my family, I instead decided to do part-time consulting on my own.

CFO of Big Ass Fans (BAF), the world’s leader in industrial & commercial fans, with revenues of ~$300m and 650 people supporting operations throughout the world. Private equity group Lindsay Goldberg acquired BAF from its founder in December 2017 and I was brought in as the first new executive of the company a month after acquisition, presiding over the business through the sale of the company in July 2021.• In the wake of doubling EBITDA, the company was sold in 4 years for over double what was paid for it, in a highly successful exit; growing sales, significantly expanded gross margins and streamlined cost structures led to this result.• Completed two debt recapitalizations throughout the ownership term, returning over 50% of the initial investment to shareholders well before the ultimate sale• Navigated significant disruption during COVID, maintaining positive cash flow, appropriate leverage, and managing to grow EBITDA despite sales headwinds• Built new Accounting/Finance/IT functions, inclusive of extensive team rebuilding, internal control weakness remediation, and financial reporting capabilities; this while also reducing functional headcount by 30%• Awarded one of five Modern Account Awards by Blackline, a $6B Accounting/Finance software firm - The Modernizer award “honors the company that embraces Modern Accounting, moving from traditional, manual and chaotic processes to building a proactive, predictable and fast F&A function.” BAF was the only small company given an award, the others being J&J, McKesson, Intel, and Zurich.• Also responsible for IT and Facilities

CFO of John Crane, the largest of the 5 divisions of the Smiths Group (FTSE: SMIN.L), a global designer and manufacturer of highly engineered components for multiple industries, with $1.2b of global sales and 6500 employees in 50 countries. Reporting directly to the President, responsible for leading 280 finance staff in 30 countries.

Full P&L responsibility for the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) business unit of Covidien, the only globally managed business within the Pharmaceuticals group. Reporting directly to the President of the Pharmaceuticals Division, responsible for $400m of sales and leading a global team of 45 people.

Full finance responsibility for the Pharmaceuticals Division of Covidien, a global leader in the production of Narcotic APIs and the 5th largest U.S. generic pharmaceuticals company. Reporting to the Sector CFO, supporting a business with $1.2b of sales, managing a global team of 80 people. Promoted to General Manager within 2 years of joining the company

Full financial responsibility for the pharmaceutical business of Neutrogena, OrthoNeutrogena. Reporting to the CFO of Neutrogena, supporting a business with $125m of sales, managing a team of 6 people.

Group Controller for the International Pharmaceutical Sourcing Companies of J&J. Reporting to the CFO of Janssen (J&J’s largest company outside the US), supporting a business with $500m of sales and $2b of intercompany income.

Operations Finance Controller responsible for managing the financial performance of J&J’s six chemical manufacturing plants around the world, including direct responsibility for their largest plant in Belgium. Reporting to the VP of Operations Finance, supporting $500m of trade sales and six manufacturing sites.

Supported the Secretary of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) in evaluating the daily reserve outlook, as well as the Monetary Affairs Group economists with research projects
