Support to Yamaha Motor Japan for reworks and modification campaigns at European distribution centres, with Japanese or contracted local staff. Also coordinating the return of warranty items for evaluation and assessment. Plus maintaining the Workshop and its assets for training events, presentations and day to day operations.

Service and repair of yachts, principally those within the Ferretti Group such as Riva, Pershing, Mochi Craft, Apreamare, as well as others such as Sea Ray, Sunseeker etc. Principal duties are main engine and generator service and repair, installation pipework and plumbing, removal and replacement of propeller shaft bushes, installation of retrofit items such as thrusters, tender launch systems, deck fittings etc. February 2013 I attended the Ferreti ‘Service University’ in Mondolfo, Italy on new developments principally with Pershing yachts.

Managing a dive centre service department including regulator servicing, oxygen cleaning to MoD DEFstandards, cylinder and valve service, compressor maintenance, repair and maintenance on high pressure (450 bar) air systems including storage banks, oxygen booster pumps, gas blending panels and hyperbaric recompression chambers. Gauge and safety relief valve calibration and testing.

S'Algar, Menorca

Briefing and leading groups of divers frequently within overhead cave and cavern environments. Other duties included boat maintenance and repair, compressor operation and maintenance, servicing of high pressure air systems, scuba equipment, installation of moorings and some minor salvage work. Boat Coxswain of a twin screw/engine 30ft hard boat, a 8 meter diesel inboard and a 6 meter petrol outboard RIB to convey divers to offshore dive sites.

Rothera Base, Antarctica

A broad remit of responsibilities with the operation and maintenance of the base’s mechanical services, including the installation of reverse osmosis water making plant, sewage treatment plant, general mechanical services, pumps, boilers, instrumentation and pipe work.

Romford, United Kingdom

Responsible for all technical aspects of ship discharge equipment, including coal/bulk grabs, pneumatic conveyors, conveyor belts, bagging plants etc. This included managing contract equipment for The Mozambique Port Authority. Often field based in Angola, Haiti, Nigeria and Mozambique to co-ordinate the discharge and expediting of food aid cargoes whilst working in close liaison with clients including the World Food Programme. Duties included the preparation of documentation for import, export, internal transfer, cargo tallies, waybills etc.

Beira, Mozambique

Design and fabrication of 15 and 25 metre of all steel, welded transport barges for use on the Zambezi River and delta area. Liaising with and reporting back to EU donor sections, the National Department for Development and the Regional Governors office, labour unions and partner organisations.

Namibia With Vso.

Conducting an assessment on the condition of the departments drilling rigs and support equipment covering technical, environmental and social impact. This resulted in drafting a proposal to enhance the productivity of the national rural drilling programme. Whilst working with this Department I gained a good base knowledge in water conservation and management.

Sierra Leone

Managed a boatyard and engineering workshop fabricating 17 and 21 meter wooden transport and fishing boats in addition to this was the running of the vehicle section to facilitate logistical support to remote field locations. There was a large element of training, specifically conducting trainer training on the repair and maintenance of engines, this targeted training structures i.e. conducting a needs awareness, identification of target beneficiaries, preparation of a syllabus and knowledge transfer skills.

Working at a condensate storage and port facility, loading ships and road tankers.

Commissioning compressed air, heating (steam), chemical effluent and ventilation systems on a large industrial civil engineering project.

I served my apprenticeship at sea maintaining medium and slow speed marine diesel engines and associated ship services. ie. boilers, air compressors, high and low pressure pipe work. I attended Glasgow College of Nautical Studies completing the Engine Room Ratings to Engineering Officers course (SCOTVEC / BTEC in Marine Engineering).
