Profile bio

About Eric S.A. Urby

I am a young professional passionate about current foreign affairs issues, particularly concerning the security and spread of democracy and freedom. I have experience in development work which has allowed me to assist USAID missions in their efforts to strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions worldwide and stabilize local communities. In my work, I have attended congressional hearings on topics such as CCP aggression and the emergency evacuation from Afghanistan, which have made me interested in a career working to defend democratic values and tending to the modern pressure points of democracy. I have a background in graduate-level research, where I have published articles on topics such as democracy in a globalized world, axiological taxonomy, and Platonic theories. My thesis was titled "The Philosophical and Legal Implications of Granting Ecosystems Legal Personhood," and explored issues such as what is owed to the future and how the civil legal system can be leveraged to efficiently conserve the environment. I was recently invited to the ASA Rocky Mountain Divison Conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico to present my research on the human capacity to evoke the sublime and how it can be used in day-to-day life.
