In August 2023, Eric Gilkey pursued a career change and began an internship at Hamilton City School District as a school psychologist after having earned a masters degree in education and an education specialist degree in school psychology from the University of Dayton. He was hired by Hamilton City School District at the completion of his internship.Previously, Gilkey wrote and reported on the property/casualty insurance space beginning in 2005. He began his publishing career with Claims Magazine, a publication of Summit Business Media, where he served in a variety of editorial roles, including editor in chief for several years.In 2010, he was promoted to editor in chief of PropertyCasualty360.com, which he helped design, implement, and launch. The portal-style website provides education to p/c agents, claims managers, and risk professionals, and in its first year, drew a web presence of more than one million page views. While here, Gilkey pioneered new processes and oversaw 13 editors who published dozens of articles each week, monitored Google Analytics data and web traffic, tailored content to help drive SEO goals, and assisted in online content marketing efforts by creating and maintaining five weekly eNewsletters.In September 2011, Gilkey joined the not-for-profit Claims and Litigation Management (CLM) Alliance staff to serve as executive editor of Claims Management magazine, one of several publications distributed by CLM. He helped create, design, and launch the monthly publication in January 2012 as part of a community outreach effort to help educate and inform association membership. In 2017, he helmed the editorial and design merger of Claims Management and Litigation Management magazines to form CLM Magazine, a new monthly flagship publication for the CLM. In 2021, Gilkey was promoted to vice president of content, where he was responsible for all editorial matters at CLM and its publications. In July 2023, under his leadership, CLM Magazine was recognized as a grand award winner for publication excellence by the APEX awards.
