Design and layout PCB assemblies for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites that include solar panel based battery charging, power distribution, mechanism control, and a backplane. Troubleshoot board and system level issues that occur during testing and integration.

Facility is operated by the University of Hawaii and funded by NASA. I was the only electrical engineer on staff at this facility, so my responsibilities include designing the electronics for cryogenic instrumentation to maintaining or upgrading high power facility mechanisms such as the shutters, telescope drive, and the dome drive. I designed and did layout in Altium, then ordered the PCBs (bare or populated). I have hand soldered 5000+ component PCBs with 0603 resistors, QFP fine pitch, etc. Larger designs are mixed analog and digital, primarily infrared array controllers for the H2RG, H4RG, and SAPHIRA arrays. Designs used USB 3.0 and low level hardware used FPGAs that I programmed in VHDL.

Worked for ITT Space Systems and designed circuitry for various weather satellite instruments such as the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) for the GOES-R series and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) used on various NOAA satellites. Designs included 3 phase motor drivers, launch lock drivers, telemetry, and a high precision distance measuring circuit (for position angle). In depth worst case analysis and radiation hardening were special requirements for these designs.
