Personally recruited by Datacore founder, industry luminary and the inventor of Software-Defined-Storage Ziya Aral, I led a number of strategic business and corporate development initiatives.• Deliver five-year strategic roadmaps for Flash/SSD, NVMe over Fabric, FPGA's (and hybrids), and massively many-cored architectures.• Identify long-term market, technology and customer adoption trends in the enterprise systems-and-software ecosystem to capitalize on the disruptive impact of software-defined and hyperconverged.• Find and leverage emerging synergies among hyperconverged ecosystem channel partners, manufacturers and investors.• Develop global marketing plan around Datacore's benchmarking efforts, sell to stakeholders and guide execution. Results:• DataCore-Lenovo partnership led to the industry's first channel-integrated hyperconverged appliances (with Arrow Electronics).• Sales of Datacore hyperconverged products (both software-only and appliance) led the company's growth in North America and outperformed the non-hyperconverged portfoilo worldwide in new customer aquisition. • DataCore's five published SPC-1 (Storage Performance Council) benchmarks were the first peer-audited benchmarks of any hyperconverged systems and set seven new world records for highest SPC-1 IOPS, fastest response times and lowest cost-per-IOPS.

At Xiotech I defined award-winning products and solutions in emerging/strategic areas such as IP Storage, remote replication, SSD, attribute-based storage and tiered performance arrays. Analyzed emerging standards, IP and startup offerings. Built strategic relationships to deliver numerous industry-first solutions (IP-based GeoRAID/TimeSCALE) for remote data replication, disaster recovery, attribute based storage management and other strategic initiatives.In product development role, led Xiotech to premier partner status with Microsoft, delivering the industry's first solution to support Microsoft's VDS (Virtual Disk Services) initiative, and played a key role in a joint project with Oracle in the development of Oracle's ASM (Automated Storage Management) initiative.In technical marketing role, developed Xiotech's signature "Storage Foundation", a unified technology value framework in 2001, which has remained as Xiotech's primary messaging vehicle ever since.

My first 'technical' job at Moog Music was also my first exposure to the realm of Applied Quantum Physics. Wearing a pair of Sennheiser headphones, I had the unlikely job of 'listening to diodes'. It turned out that the random white noise generator invented by Bob Moog used the 'avalanche breakdown' mode of a reverse-biased silicon diode to generate the noise signal that was so critical to the Moog sound. Even the most minor impurities at the N-P silicon junction would ruin the sound of the white noise, resulting in what I described then as 'lumps in the mashed potatoes'. Once a week or so I'd spend an entire 8-hour day listening to the diodes that went into every synthesizer we made. If I recall correctly, only about one in ten or so of these diodes sounded 'perfect'. I was sure that if I looked hard enough I'd be able to visually detect the 'lumps of potato' on my bench oscilloscope and get an attaboy for finding a better test/selection procedure...but no. The ONLY way to get a perfect white noise was to listen to the diodes one at a time. We rejected tens of thousands of otherwise perfectly working diodes in those days. When I wasn't listening to diodes, I rotated through every other electronic test/tuning job on virtually every Moog synthesizer model ever produced before 1980.Forty years later as quantum cryptography approached reality, Intel would leverage Bob Moog's genius to produce the world's first TRULY random numbers for unbreakable encryption.
