As a senior technician my main focus is to diagnose or exclude a metabolic disease / syndrome in patients by measuring various metabolites in different types of body fluids. This is accomplished by using several analytical techniques within a quality assurance environment (CLIA, JCI and ISO 15189). From 2011 till present time I'm responsible for external quality assurance samples logistics, statistical analysis and laboratory feedback. The Metabolic Laboratory participates in several quality assurance programs like SKML and ERNDIM.From 2008 till present time I work as an ICT consultant to mediate between the laboratory and the VUmc IT department.

We developed a new R Shiny web-application, that accurately and rapidly processesSingle Reaction Monitoring (SRM) Mass spectrometry data, using an improved recursive XCMS peak-finding algorithm, to calculate urinary total Sulfatide concentration as a biomarker for the diagnosis of Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD) and Multiple Sulfatide Deficiency (MSD) patients. Furthermore, we used various supervised shallow machine learning algorithms to identify potential urinary Sulfatide compounds which can accurately distinguish the different MLD subtypes.final grade: 9/10

Minor Internship project at the Metabolic Laboratory VUmc: "Statistical evaluation of the influence of important technical Q Exactive settings on Metabolomic data outcome. A comparison study". In the Metabolomics research field the influence of technical settings on data outcome can sometimes be underestimated. By varying important technical settings on a Thermo Scientific Q Exactive with Orbitrap technology, and with the help of statistical tools in R and Python, we investigated the impact of various technical settings on data variance and reproducibility and consequently, find a optimal combination of settings to enhance our search for new potential Metabolomic biomarkers.final grade: 8/10

As a research technician at the Metabolic Laboratory I had the privilege to support a scientific researcher during his PhD . The aim of the research was to investigate the relation between physicochemical properties of lipoproteins and cardiovascular disease in patients with type 2 diabetes. During this time I contributed in the development and optimization of several analytical methods using techniques such as LC-MS/MS, HPLC and ELISA.
