About Eric Willie
As a Professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) for over a decade, I have a successful history of service in higher education. I have led policy changes to support my colleagues, updated curricula to prepare students for the competitive market, and am currently serving as a Provost Fellow on Faculty Affairs.I am a past Fulbright U.S. Scholar, and recognized as an expert in Percussion Performance and Pedagogy. With the latter, I have multiple co-authored books, commissions, peer-reviewed articles, and international presentations. My research is focused on the music of the Maracatu Nações in northeastern Brasil (Recife, PE), where I have previously served as a Regency Professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco. I am passionate and dedicated to teaching, as evidenced by the success of my students who have won the Percussive Arts Society's International Percussion Ensemble Competition on multiple occasions; as well as professional performing positions, university professorships, and secondary school positions across the United States.
