In this role, I led a team of gifted Engineers (Physics, Chemistry, Mechanics, Electronics, Software) for the Materials & Minerals Business Unit based in Switzerland. I oversaw R&D activities related to the development of specific analytical instruments to achieve qualitative and quantitative analysis for process and quality control. XRF, XRD, and OES instruments are employed in analytical laboratories serving applications as diverse as metallurgy, mining, geology and geochemistry, petroleum, polymers, glass and ceramics, forensics investigations and environmental applications.The role was extremely multifaceted, requiring a high level of ability and interest in Science & Engineering to tune ideas into technical plans, prototypes and products. It compelled to have strong skills in cross-cultural leadership of the team members, problem solving methodology, planning, prioritization, creative approach for generating new ideas, etc. I set-up and managed a team of Engineers in China and India to expand the development bandwidth. The strategy was to focus on its two flagship products aiming at the introduction on the market of a sterilizer for medical wastes and an express re-heater for the catering and vending sectors. As a Process Integration Manager in a semiconductor factory, I was responsible to have the 10'000 meters' view on the whole 0.5 um CMOS process we transferred in the production line. A key point was to have a full understanding of the manufacturing process and the ability to take responsibility for making choices and decisions.
