I have always had an acute sense to read people, and their emotions, and understand the best course of action in order to help however I could. However, it wasn't until my junior of college at the University of Missouri-Columbia that I learned I could use this skill to help others whenever they needed someone the most. The field of Psychology has opened the door for me and I plan to use this opportunity to counsel others on their worries, stresses, and fears. I spent nearly a full year working in the retail industry, strengthening my interpersonal communication and empathy mapping skills. I also volunteered as a coach for my local communities youth track club every summer for my entire high school career. These experiences sharpened my problem solving and team cooperation skills, as well my patience. The skills I honed during these experiences will benefit me in the future as I work towards providing adequate counseling or therapy services for those in need. I have a passion for listening and helping others to overcome hurdles in their personal lives and hope to use these skills to better my community.
