About Erik Robstad

I am a passionate electronics engineer with a background as an electrician, currently working as a Software Engineer at OptoScale, specializing in embedded systems. We develop devices that help fish farmers accurately measure fish size, monitor growth, assess welfare status, and count parasites.For my master’s thesis I used artificial intelligence (AI) to determine the position of wireless devices in large building areas. This gave me a good insight into how to merge AI and embedded solutions, and it resulted in a patent application (https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2022238508A1).Instead of going straight to the university to get my Master's degree I wanted to do some "hands on" work first as an electrician. After the vocational studies I started my apprenticeship, where I did various tasks ranging from electrical installations in homes to maintenance of security systems in government buildings. After getting my electrician certification I was offered a position as foreman for a larger apartment buildings project. I chose to accept, and carried out that task until the project was finished.In my free time I play keyboard in a rock band, creating music and playing concerts across Norway.Facing both creative and practical challenges together in the context of a band trying to make it in the music industry is terribly complex. It gives an unique set of collaborating and problem solving skills that I think are hard to get other places. In addition, it gives insight into how marketing of a product (in this case a band) should be done.
