Served as the unit communications officer, information systems officer, IED-Defeat Trainer, Military Search Officer, and company tax assistance officer.During combat operations, I executed missions designed to kill or capture local insurgents. During stability operations, I served as the agricultural, small business, and women's affairs liaison officer in my assigned area of operation. My background in both working in agriculture and business allowed me to quickly assess the economic needs in my unit's assigned area and distribute micro grants to only the most promising ventures. My specialty was assessing and developing a once defunct fish farming industry back into a successful, self sustaining business for the local people. During this time, I also assisted in forming a local government designed to successfully leverage resources for the local citizens from the Government of Iraq. I mentored the local government's agricultural director into forming a local growers cooperative, eventually brokering a deal with the Government of Iraq for low cost seeds, fertilizer, and construction materials. As the women's affairs officer, I assisted in starting two new businesses owned by Iraqi women; one was a hair salon, and the other was a clothing store. Both businesses were unique in this area of Iraq as women rarely owned or operated businesses.
