Hello my name is Erik Vargas, I have 10 years of experience in the field of education, including 4 years of supervision, project planning and program management. I am currently looking to change industries and explore the world of product management. I believe I have the transferable skills needed to successfully make a transition from managing an education program to product management. Some of my skills that I believe are transferable to the field of product management is taking a project from concept to launch and reporting on outcomes and or deliverables. Other skills that I have picked up managing program that I strongly believe are directly transferable to product management would be the ability to manage relationships between school principals, administrators, mentors and management at the districts central office in order to ensure that projects were running smooth and efficiently. I am well aware of the fact that changing careers and going into an industry that I am not an expert in will require a lot of learning and a lot of work, however I am confident in my work ethic and reliable with my work. I would have to say that education is a field that requires you to be extremely resourceful given that budgets are usually always very tight and leave very little wiggle room. Having said this, I am looking forward to the opportunity to show that I am more than ready and committed to dive head first into the world of product management and be the best product manager that I can possibly be because in the famous words of "The Little Engine That Could", all it takes is one "I think I can" at a time to reach an "I thought I could."

I started this new position within LMB in March, since then, I have been able to meet with all of our 10-12th graders in order to review their IAP's. Individual Academic Plans allow students to understand where they stand in terms of college and high school credits. IAP's also allow students to have some level of autonomy over their academic courses by understadning how the classes they take fulfill certain college and high school requirements, which allows them to pick and choose certain classes for certain requirements.Aside from developing IAP's, I am also responsible for teaching two classes at Castlemont High School titled, "M&B Leadership." I teach my class using the joven noble curriculum, which emphasizes character development through cultural teachings. The objective of my class is to develop young leaders by connecting them with their cultural roots and emphasizing the importance of giving back to their communities.
