As an intern with the WMU-Cooley Innocence Project in Lansing, MI, I have obtained many valuable skills required to work in the legal field. Motivated by a passion and interest in legal advocacy, I learned to organize clinic files, file FOIA requests, conduct research into client cases using Lexis Nexis and other law databases, and have developed a proficiency in professional communication. As a legal administrative assistant for Dinsmore and Shohl I have become well rounded in the realm of Intellectual Property law as well as litigation. I have learned how to file with the USPTO, written client correspondence through IPDAS and generate reports with CPI. I also filed various pleadings with the courts such as the Oakland County Court. During my time as a file clerk I have been responsible for Ordering office supplies through Staples. I also have several clerical/receptionist duties such as answering phones, organizing mail, and setting up conference rooms for meetings with clients. As a billing coordinator for Dickinson Wright I have learned to organize and mail out invoices for multiple attorneys. I also learned how to use billing data entry programs such as Elite Enterprise and Chrome river. A 2016 Western Michigan University graduate with a bachelor’s of arts in political science, my collegiate coursework has helped me to develop a global understanding of legal issues through research and debate. Within my studies I focused on civil rights and liberties, criminal justice procedure as well as post-conviction law.
